S. American Pirate Attacks - please help!

I am posting this here because I know there is someone here who might be able to point me in the right direction.

A friend of a friend was killed in a pirate attack recently. All I know is that he was sailing off of S. America. Another friend mentioned a map that tracks these such attacks, and there was one off the coast of Costa Rica Aug 13.

Could anyone help point me towards some recent news articles on attacks off the S American coast?

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I did a quick search and I couldn't turn up any articles of piracy in South America. What ever happened to pirate with ethics? Those ships which formed microcosms of democracy among the crew? Those that formed bastions of freedom along secluded islands in the new world?

I suppose pirates these days are nothing but petty thieves and murderers.

He probably ran into some drug dealers. They dont leave any witnesses.

Perhaps anyone sailing on the high seas needs to start arming themselves again. I never thought I would see piracy back, but it clearly is (eg Somalian straits).
