Sorry, but you are confusing arrogance with confidence.

It's easy & common for 'outsiders' to make this mistake.

Yeh, right! That confidence served you well in Vietnam didn't it? It's also been quite good to you in Afghanistan and Iraq where everything the American army seems to touch goes tits up pretty quickly. So confident in-fact, that every time a war appears on the horizon America gets the UK involved and then insists that other countries also get involved and back America.
Sorry but it's arrogance of the highest order. Your government is, and has for the last ten years or more, dragged America's excellent reputation and good name through the mud. I, for one, hpe Obama can repair your reputation and brings your boys home to their families.

What does that have to do with the price of cheese?

Vietnam was a 'politically correct' war which is why there were problems and it has nothing to do with arrogance or confidence.
Please stop showing your ignorance because it does not suit you well.

Again, this has nothing to do with the point at hand.

It's funny how you ignore WWI and WWII.

America gets the UK involved??
What's the matter, the UK cannot think for themselves. America did not force the UK to do anything. Friends help friends.
What a retarded comment you made.

I, for one, hpe Obama can repair your reputation and brings your boys home to their families.

I for one hope he does not. America should not and does not want to become another Euro type country which is where Obama wants to go.

i love the brits and canadians and australians (they have awesome special forces- plus just usually nice people)but remember there is a thing called NATO. it means north american treaty organization and when one of those factions goes to war the others have to defend them and help. and if it wasn't for the us we would all be speaking german right now. luckilyhitler was a moron. and as for vietnam we lost that because of politics- first televised war and people(hippies) were outraged with what they saw. sorry but that is what happens in war. the commanding general(i forget his name want to say mcdougal but i know that is wrong) he had no control and wasn't allowed to do what he wanted- otherwise we would have devastated that place
but the liberals wouldn't allow it

What would be the point in invading the United States? Why would someone want to invade? What would be achieved?

If a major power wanted land and resources, there are far far easier and smaller targets to invade. If they wanted to just ''eliminate'' the US population, then Nukes or Bio weapons are the way to go, not invasion.

The same could be said of invading Russia ...... there is no point in it.

You dont wage a war unless you have a dammed good idea that you are going to win it.

By the same token, the next time Britain gets into a scrap, can you guys handle it and let us stay home? I lost uncles in Europe!

China, Russia, and anyone else you can think of do not have sufficient naval forces to even reach American shores with any significant invasion force. We may get into a total war one day, but if things really go tits up, I doubt there will be enough folks in the mood to invade the US to field a soccer team.

Even if they did, and actually made it to our shores, it would be a very short visit.

The only successful invasion of the US is by Mexico. And it's still ongoing.

i would like to interject a point of interest, George Jr together w/the prime minister of Canada and President of Mexico signed an agreement January, 2008 called Security and Prosperity Partnership Of North America www.spp.gov...

SPP Background

The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) was launched in March of 2005 as a trilateral effort to increase security and enhance prosperity among the United States, Canada and Mexico through greater cooperation and information sharing.

This trilateral initiative is premised on our security and our economic prosperity being mutually reinforcing. The SPP recognizes that our three great nations are bound by a shared belief in freedom, economic opportunity, and strong democratic institutions.

The SPP provides the framework to ensure that North America is the safest and best place to live and do business. It includes ambitious security and prosperity programs to keep our borders closed to terrorism yet open to trade.

The SPP builds upon, but is separate from, our long-standing trade and economic relationships. It energizes other aspects of our cooperative relations, such as the protection of our environment, our food supply, and our public health.

this agreement (not approved by the people of the US) also allows for troops from Canada and Mexico to cross our borders and assist in stabilizing civil unrest.

just a thought you might want to ponder and the ushering in of The North American Union.

An invasion would be silly on US soil. Everyone and their brother owns a gun. It would just be a US military to worry about, it would be the entire population shooting at them. Thats a no win situation. Just as the quote earlier in this thread stated " there would be a gun behind every blade of grass", that is the reason Japan says they would NEVER try to invade the US

It has happened before in the past, Russian troops went in to Alaska in the middle of the cold war, they were planing an invasion from siberia.
It's easy to cross from siberia to alaska. Some forget Russia is right next dor to USA.Why is everyone looking west when they can look at the far east.

There is no liquid water betwen Russia and the US in the winter, it's all ice.

The US has thought all of this out, and has made it an impossibility for any other country to invade our soil. They could certainly attempt it, but within hours, the country they came from would be a smoldering radiation hole. The ships couldn't even get close to the shores. It would be sheer suicide to try. Even if ships could get to our shores, and launch invading forces, they wouldn't get past the south, much less the mid-west. The only states they could move freely in would be the states with assault weapon bans. The founding fathers knew what ground war with an invading force was. Every able bodied American should be ready to defend the country, not with rakes and axe handles, with arms.

this is a map of World Commanders and Area of Responsibility. Notice Alaska has green/blue coloring which respresents usnorthcom and uspaccom which is United States and China.

i believe Russia is only say 90 miles from Alaska. But I do believe China, Russia and Iran are in cahoots according to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization original formed to counter-balance the United Nations and NATO.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is an intergovernmental mutual-security organisation which was founded in 2001 by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Except for Uzbekistan, the other countries had been members of the Shanghai Five, founded in 1996; after the inclusion of Uzbekistan in 2001, the members renamed the organisation.

The Shanghai Five grouping was originally created April 26, 1996 with the signing of the Treaty on Deepening Military Trust in Border Regions in Shanghai by the heads of states of Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. April 24, 1997 the same countries signed the Treaty on Reduction of Military Forces in Border Regions in a meeting in Moscow.

i certainly appreciate your believe in the might of america but i do believe our government is out to destroy its people but to some degree you are right about not being able to reach our borders but i do believe they will spring out from among us:

“At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth in their military chest; with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”
Abraham Lincoln - January 27, 1838

i think they are already here in position.

I can see it now. American forces are tied down in Iraq, Europe, Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Our enemies, the dastardly Chinese/Russian group put the sneak on the US and invade.

When the limited ground forces here in the States are hard pressed to hold against these formidable foes, an orderly runs in to report to the General:

"General! Great news! New arrivals! We have 100,000 Texans, 75,000 Mississipians, 75,000 Alabama boys, 75,000 Georgia boys, 75,000 Tennessee boys, 60,000 South Carolinians, 65,000 North Carolinians, 75,000 Virginians, 50,000 boys from Arkansas, 25,000 from Northwest Florida, and some crazy bastards from Kentucky that number 55,000!"

"That's great, but we don't have enough M-16's to arm them!"

"Not a problem. They all brought their own. And ammo."

"Good God!"

"No General, but damned near! And this is just the advanced party."
