Does anybody know how old you have to be to move out legally in Canada? I keep hearing it's 16, but never from any offical sources. If you move out at 16, do your parents have to sign something?

Also, what things would you have to take care of before leaving to move? (i.e. address change, etc.)

Any help would be appreciated. I'm sure this info will be useful to others as well. Thanks.

When was your age as far as l know the age is 16.
I moved out at that time but I was also moving in with 4 other people.

I didn't sign the lease I just had to pay the guy who was the head cheese in that department.

But when I was 17 I got my own place and they just wanted to know what I was doing for work, I signed a lease contract, and moved in.

You don't have to take care of anything when you move.

If you are renting which I think you are, you don't have as much paper work as one would when they are buying a house.

Change your address once you move in. You will have the proof to show whatever bureau you go to change that sort of thing.

Many people don't really take 16 yr olds seriously. Most of the time 16 yr olds move out before their year contract is up.

I moved from Niagara to London when I was 16, but again I didn't have to deal with the renter, just the guy I was living with.

Good luck...

Oh yes, and don't make the mistake of buying wants over needs.
You'll either run out of rent money, not eat for a while, or some other problem.

And save save save! This is a big step, common people make the mistake of spending their money and thinking they will get it back before the end of the month.

Sometimes it just doesn't happen. You always want to stay on top of things, because once you fall down, you tend to keep falling down like a drunk ass on a bike.
Those were my mistakes.

wow: Don't spend fast, make it last. You'll be happy you did it.

Wow, thanks for all the info, a lot more than I could have hoped for. Good advice.

Well, I'm 17 now, and I'm moving into a house with 3 other guys. The house is owned by the parents of one of those guys, and there is a thousand dollar/month lease on it. We're going to rent out the basement for about 600, so rent will be ultra-low...I think I'll be paying about 200-250 max monthly, CND dollars. Not a bad deal eh? Each guy gets his own room too.

But yeah, I definately can see why you'd say save. I've already learned those lessons...all the money i've ever had has pretty much been tossed away on something stupid...I dont really have much to show for it. Things will definately be different from now on though...i've kicked a few habits.

Anyways thanks again...out of all the places I've posted, your the only one that replied.

I know what you mean about people posting. Lot's of people go to the thread but never post. I kind of find it rude actually. this is a message board, I want messages damn it! lol.

Anyway I lived with 4 guys when I was 16 my boyfriend was 18 and they were all in college.
You would think at that age they would be clean... Well they weren't.

I found myself always cleaning up after them, and doing dishes, and laundry, and cleaning up the beer bottles while vacuming up stupid things like peanuts, and popcorn, and other little nasty things!

I want you to know what your getting yourself into.
It's really fun in the beginning, but it just gets worse.
Don't get me wrong, I was lot's of fun, but I didn't make nasty habits along the way! Just be prepared girl!

Our total rent was 1200/mth, I had to work part time at little cesar's but stupid me spent rent money on clothes that didn't even fit! lol, I think I was sabatoging the whole thing, because I left a month later to go home.

I didn't really like london and was getting home sick. Although I would never admit that to myself at the time.

If you can make schedules, and if they are really good guys they will clean up after themselves and make the place livable for all instead of being selfish and lazy.

Those things happen, it's human nature, people are lazy by nature that s it.. My husband can't even clean up after himself! We are still fighting about it. In fact we argued today.

I say. I"m always right, if i'm the one cleaning up all the time and take notice that he's not lifting a finger, I know i'm right. But it's so easy to spin the tables and make the other person look crazy, angry, and anal.

C'est la vie!

Good luck stand your ground and have fun!
It really is a blast. Enjoy it while it lasts.

And remember, your kind of like the mother figure in that you always have to keep telling them whats fair and just when it comes to sharing the house.

Some guys just don't get it.
