I don't think this was a worship of Satan, or Satanism for that matter, so much as it was a group of evil twisted insane people doing absolutely evil things. They just so happened to 'color' it with well known symbols i.e 666, upside-down cross. It was probably just a means of getting more attention.

The article seems more out to get "Satanists and Goths" then about the case itself. Probably being used as Christian propaganda imho. But, whatever. Interesting also, the leader of this group was a choir boy in the local Church (I assume Christian).

Anyways, this is horrible Horrible when anyone innocent dies. Worse when they are so young. And even worse when it's something like this

After police arrested eight suspected members of the ring, one boasted how they had previously dug up the grave of a newly-dead girl and eaten her heart.

Okay I thought about this and I am really confused.

The article says these teens were roasted in a fire, and then eaten.... then the cops found the crime scene. So how did they manage to determine each body was stabbed 666 times

Again the 'Sun' propagating histeria against the real Wicca population by linking this totally gruesome and inhuman crime with 'Satansim' . Whislt my heart goes out to those kids who lost their lives to these monsters, it makes me sick that people are so ill-informed that all Satan worshipping involves killing and canabalism.... Satanism is about fulfilling your personal lusts for greed and self pleasuring.. It involves orgies and such like, maybe even a little blood letting but only the truly sad think that they have to kill to 'please satan' Thats what the media say so it must be true..
And that witches and warlocks are all involved with satan? do me a favour...

But a lot of it doesn't make sense.

If four people who were associated with each other, all disappeared in June, I would have to think one of the 4 people would have seen a red flag go up at some point. [the article doesn't state they were all killed at the same time].

Friends would talk and share information, so unless they were all taken and killed at the same time, which the article implies otherwise by the method the gang used, it sounds somewhat unbelievable.

This was the first thing that struck me as well.

It could possibly be from the details provided by the group, but then how credible would that be considering what they are accused of.

Think about stabbing someone 666 times... X 4. There wouldn't be enough of an area to actually count the wounds.

I also wondered how they determined the number of stab wounds.

I also am thinking about other stories I have heard out of the Sun that were completely sensational. I am not saying that this story did not or could not have happened exactly this way... I am just saying that the National Enquirer also covers murders occasionally.

Eitherway, if this is true, then this is sick as anything I have ever heard.

I'm also wondering how the police know about the 666 stabbings if the remains had been eaten. I guess either information from the arrested teens themselves, or just hype to liven up the story. The latter of which is grotesque considering the eating of the poor kids is enough of a disgusting story without having to add in the other information.

With all due respect, I couldn't find any reference to Wicca in that Sun article. In fact, at the end it specifically gives some statistic that refers to 'Satanists' - although which variety of Satanist* it doesn't say - but not Wiccans.

Unless of course you're taking the reference to "witches and warlocks" to be a reference specific to Wicca. I'm even more confused as I thought, perhaps wrongly, that the term 'warlock' was no longer en vogue amongst Wiccans due to the 'oath breaker' meaning.

People that are 'in the know' and pop culture are two different things.

Most people lump goths, wiccans, and witches/warlocks together. A big percentage also attribute those to Satan (not Anton'esq, or any kind of Luciferianism, just Devil-man Satan).

At least within the USA.

That might be so, and to an extent I agree, but that's not really applicable to DataWraith's comment:

The Sun, for all it's faults - and it has many - aren't really making the link or propagating hysteria. I wouldn't even say the paper is even leaving it open for readers to make any connection themselves as they're fairly specific. It's not some fuzzy scaremongering such as if you allow your kid to read Harry Potter or listen to the 'self-harm death cult, Emo' then the Devil will rape your child and force you to watch.

I'm sure the Sun have written some crap about Wicca in the past and made that false link, but, I just can't see any evidence of them trying to make that connection in this particular story.

I'd take this story with a pinch of salt or maybe a nice gravy would be better

Don't know about you but I think I'd be pretty bored stabbing anything 666 times so for that reason I'm not investing - so I'm out...

By counting the marks on the bones. Whenever a person is stabbed, it is almost impossible to miss nicking, slicing, or cutting a bone. (If you don't believe me, try stabbing a turkey or chicken the next time you thaw one out, and see if you don't hit bone.)

Heh, good point. Although, to be fair, I think that's human nature-born hypocrisy rather than anything specific to Wiccans or Satanists. You could substitute those words for practically any demographic, religious or not: Muslims, Republicans, Democrats, football (soccer!) fans and so on.
