Such a warm and creative musician. Helped to founder one the most successful and innovative bands in popular music. My sympathies to his family and to Pink Floyd.

He's gone to the Great Gig In The Sky. He will be missed

Terrible and genuinely sad news. One of my favourite musicians and someone who really helped to develop the sound of not just one but two eras.

Is this really what the Breaking Alternative News section has come to?

I don't care if people mourn the man, but really, this is what BTS is for...

Hi There,

NovusOrdoMundi:

Is this really what the Breaking Alternative News section has come to? I don't care if people mourn the man, but really, this is what BTS is for...

There's always got to be one hasn't there! What a buffoon!

Pardon me for making a error. I could not find BTS, so I put this extremely sad news in what I thought was 'current events'. My apologies if I have offended anyone with my mistake. I shall go to a corner of my small apartment, shrink, and be sad there. Moderator, if possible, please remove this offensive thread to the right section, wouldn't want to upset other pedantics would we...

I loved his work. I wish his loved ones peace.

Since I don't frequent BTS I appreciate that you posted this news here. Thank you.

Us and them, to each his own.

very sad indeed. He died at home from cancer, which is a terrible way to die but at least it wasn't in a tragic or violent way (like say, the late Dimebag Darrel who was shot dead on stage).
He wrote and co-wrote some of the most beautiful music...
my ultimate recommendation to anyone who loves Floyd is from the BBC live sessions recorded in France, i think... but they do a 14 minute version of Fat Old Sun (originally from the Meddle album) that moves into some of the most intense pieces of music they've ever produced, and features some brilliant keyboards from the late Mr Wright..

Why on an alternative site? Time was they summed up alternative.

Hmmm...saw Floyd in '72, twice in '97, and in 94. (plus Waters and Gilmour solos)

Raised a glass to Wright, and as a cancer survivor myself, pledged to meet him on the dark side of the moon.

Ok, I moved it to bts.

Btw, he wrote this song:

Pink Floyd - Summer '68 (1970)

Lyrics

Would you like to say something before you leave?
Perhaps you'd care to state exactly how you feel?
We say goodbye before we've said hello
I hardly even like you, I shouldn't care at all
We met just six hours ago, when the music was too loud
From your bed I gained a day and lost a bloody year
And I would like to know
How do you feel? How do you feel?
How do you feel? How do you feel?

Not a single word we said, delights still without fears
Occasionally you showed a smile, but what was the need?
I felt the cold far too soon in the work of nine to five
My friends are lying in the sun, I wish that I was there
Tomorrow brings another town and another girl like you
Every time before you leave to greet another man
Just to let me know
How do you feel? How do you feel?
How do you feel? How do you feel?

Goodbye to you
Charlotte Kringles dew
I've had enough for one day

This song (but not this video, which I've just found) I've previously posted in the '70s thread on pages 6 and 10, and in this thread: R.I.P Richard Wright

I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd twice consecutively in '94 CNE Stadium.
True icons of music.

RIP Richard Wright, you will be missed, fortunately for us your music will live on forever. You have achieved what few have, a taste of immortality.

When I read this it broke my heart. However the first thought I had was yet one more awesome musician in heaven jammin with his fellow artists. I saw Pink Floyd at OSU in the either 89 or 90. (too many wasted brain cells) They were awesome. This is just sad.

As for where this is posted, don't worry about it. When my son does something he thinks is wrong, I ask him "Is it a hangin offense?" He laughs and usually says no. When the day comes he says yes, that's when I'll worry.
