WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

Obama doesn't want the war to end and the troops to come home. HE wants to end the war and bring the troops home.

I think Obama is faced with the prospect that the war could come to an abrupt end before the November election. In addition, there has been whispers that the economy as a whole will begin to reverse itself and turn back to growth levels expected by participants.

Unfortunatly for him and Biden, a strong America is not in his short term interests.
