Sun Spots and Northern Lights

Hey quick question...

I noticed the last couple of years right around Halloween, here in Ohio we got to see pretty cool northern lights. Does this happen the same time every year?

I read on here that there is no sunspot activity now?


I really enjoy seeing the lights and look forward to it. Am I waiting in vain this time?

Unfortunately for you, we are currently in a solar minimum. This means minimal sunspot activity on the Sun.

Most Aurora Borealis that are seen at your latitude would more than likely be caused by a Coronal Mass Ejection(CME).

It is unlikely that you'll see the northern lights again this year, however, maybe you'll get lucky and have a Sunspot form sometime around Halloween.
