i love your display pic, lol. tried the same one myself actually

i am definately an arachnaphobe and no this doesn't work with me. i am fascinated by them, all tv shows with them on i try to watch. they are brilliant things, complex and intelligent, but no no no no no. i once thought i was fine, but then the other night a really big one (3-4 inches) ran across the floor, i noticed it, it noticed me. i jumped up onto the sofa, turned lights etc off (it was 2:30am) and just went to bed to hide.
but i also thought, "i bet that spider goes about it's daily business right under my nose every single day of its life and just because i saw it this once why should i be paranoid?" it is probably still running around.
but having one on your bed running at full steam towards your face is not an experience i'd reccomend. that one ended up dieing

Most fear is simply based on what you don't know, or don't understand.

And the quickest treatment for fear, is knowledge.

You can find this in many aspects of phobias.
You found that arachnophobia can be treated with simple understanding of what you're afraid of.

I've actually met someone deathly afraid of cats if you'll believe it, why? Because he actually managed to do allot of his growing up without ever seeing a cat, apparently the only "knowledge" he must have had extended from ghost stories and such.

There's homophobia... the fear of gays. The only people who have that are the ones who didn't personally know any gays growing up. Hence, to them, they're strange and scary.

There are so many phobias out there, and I'm willing to bet almost all of them are based on a lack of knowledge.

Not that I am a fan of spiders (quite the opposite), fortunately for me I didn't ever get detatched to Iraq (If I were, I would have freaked!)

If you're interested in big spiders, check out the pictures on Google Images when you search Camel Spiders and check the big ones out... ick! They're mahusive and I wouldn't want to encounter one of them bad boys in the dark!!!

Well the outer layer of my epidermeras just completely shredded off on that finger after a bath today. Doesn't hurt anymore. Gives me something to do I suppose.

All you buddhist non killing spider lovers can kiss my finger. LOL.

Did I ever say I hate spiders?

Johnsky 'fear is based on what we don't understand'. I understand that a few spider bites in my lifetime have left me seriously distressed.
