THE NSW government will consider a total ban on the sale of aerosol paint cans, in a bid to crack down on graffiti.

A probe is underway within the Attorney-General's department to determine the "feasibility, effectiveness and potential implications of a complete ban on the sale of aerosol pain in NSW".

Again, another article that shows completely hypocritical thinking by authorities. Australia, we have got to be ashamed with the idiots who we have running this country.

How will banning the sale of spray cans across an entire state slow graffitti?

Does that mean that we'll have checkpoints at Albury-Wodonga where not only do we declare all fruit products, but we have to surrended all spray cans as well?

My views may be biased, but isn't this sort of like banning crow bars to slow down break-ins? You may deter the random kid who wants to paint his name under the overpass, but making paint illegal will simply force those who are serious about their art to change medium.

Maybe it will reduce the number of kids out being kids, but the people that put the majority of the paint up wont just let their culture die with a ban on supplys.

Watch out, they might ban razors and packing tape so stencil artists can't cut their stencils.

I think that banning aerosol paint cans will only lead to graffitists using other materials to deface infastructure.


I also personally feel that some of these artists (you have to admit the depth of talent) need to be given projects to work on so they can express their creativity. Some think that these artists have scial problems and I am opent to that possiblility as well. There is a street gallery in Melbourne called Hosier Lane...remarkable LEGAL graffiti.

I do not, however like to see buildings, transport carriages and furnishings that taxpayers provide, scribbled on with often disgusting slogans and words. I do not like trying to see out of a train window that has been scratched on

I am particularly annoyed that some of these unthinking people feel that they have a right to deface fences and houses. That really is not on.

In a nutshell banning aerosol paint cans is not the way to go.

This is ridiculous on many levels.

As mentioned by resistancia, street artists can use a wide range of mediums. Spray cans are merely the tool of convenience. Conventional cans of paint can be used... as can air-brushes. Chalk, pastel, oil paint, hammer and chisel, paintball guns (lol), basically anything you can think of which leaves a mark can be used as tools of graffiti.

Another side to this is the manufacturing side.
The people who need to use compressed paint for production purposes... what are they supposed to do?
They can't etch that case with a chisel to look black.
They can't rust coat steel with chalk.

On top of the professional users of aerosol paint... there's the manufacturers OF the paint, and the stores which normally sold the paint.
All these get negatively affected.

Basically all their doing here is harming their own economy.

Whats next? Ban ladders, all paint, and paint brushes?
Give me a break.

And while we're at it, why don't we ban computers to stop online crimes.
It's getting ridiculous, there are people out there doing really nice graffiti pieces with consent, and all these stupid "taggers" are going around ruining it for everybody. If you want to get your name out there that bad, do something constructive like charity work or volunteering and help your community rather then making it look ugly.
Banning spray cans wont help at all, most of the people doing it are just stealing them from construction sites anyway.

Sometime's a society has to take drastic actions.The widespread graffiti assault by taggers is really depressing-it makes me fearful of what undesirable types are roaming our suburbs.Time and time again I spend a part of weekend cleaning up!I'm sick of it!I can appreciate good aerosol art but it's too far and few;a majority of it is just taggers!I'd say to the good painters out there and too the mummy scrap bookers and daddy hobbie sprayers - register at your local council where cans can be traced and registered and get as much cans as you like.

While the inconvenience might stop the casual bad kids from damaging peoples property's spur of the moment - they wont stop the serious ones.

How hard is it for them to pick up a brush and dip it in a bucket?

All this so the average guy that wants to do his hobbies in the garage with some spay paint will have to buy a spraying outfit in order to paint his small projects.

Maybe they'd have better luck with an age limit for all paint purchases. Than the worse thing would be kids have to ask their dad or mom to buy paint for their skate board or bicycle.

Cant they just purchase spray cans online from out of state and have it shipped to their home? I really doubt they are going to have the PO scan for spray cans, and if they do, God help yall down under.

I like graffitti, even just regular tags, so long as they arent expressing anything profane.

We are painting for war games and we are evacuating everyone from Northern British Columbia to Kelowna in free bus service no stop till EVRYONE is gone who isnt allowed . The only settlement of non eskimoe peoples and old mauntian folk from the main 9 rez to iz kelowna and Sea Port only . All peoples must drive out now , stay out of target ranges during war games excercises and cival training snd such . The bus is free and from all points possible south to kelowna where more bus services run elsewhere in Caanada . carz cannot drive anywhere but home to US or face life in prisons chages for Treason due to native Government evacuation orders .
