The U.S. has pulled out of a civilian nuclear deal with Russia in response to the conflict in Georgia. The agreement reached in May would have opened up markets between the countries by removing Cold War era restrictions. However, it was thought Capitol Hill would have vetoed the deal anyway, citing concerns over nuclear access for Iran.
”We make this decision with regret. Unfortunately, given the current environment, the time is not right for this agreement. We will re-evaluate the situation at a later date as we follow developments closely,” Rice said.
