My god, why would anyone make such a horrible contraption??

I absolutely cannot stand spiders. If I saw this thing walking down my street, I would probably try to kill it with fire in a fear-blinded rage.

Heh, just thought of something:

Giant robotic walking spider = meh

Giant robotic walking spider on fire = AWESOME!

Theres no reason for people too be funny, you say your "losing iq points" by watching it and you want that time back, well then why post a reply that's losing even more time, look, i guess people had too be there, it does move around and it is pretty fascinating, sorry if it's not a thread about something stupid but "intelligent" that isn't even true!

Very impressive, but...why a bloody spider? It's not like they are lovable, cuddly housepets! What a bizarre choice, as most despise spiders and require someone with a backbone to remove them. Incidentally, I am lacking a spine in this case.

naSpider was alright. went to see it on friday, by the kings dock arena before it was walkiing around, not bad, I was more impressed by the monstrosity of a forklift that was parked next to it, was HUGE!!

Why a spider? I was thinking the same thing, they creep the # out of me, seriously, why the hell not a liver bird? were meant to be proud of our city, aswell as it's symbol!

MECHANICAL LIVER BIRD THAT FLAPS WINGS!!

EMM,

TNG sucks!!

I had this whole La Princesse (name of the giant spider) thing completely wrong. Just been watching the highlights of its walk around Liverpool city centre and its visit down by the River Mersey and it was awesome. More people turned out to witness the spiders walk than turned out to watch Ringo Starr! Well, it is more interesting after all. From what I've heard its now off to Japan! You would have thought they had enough to deal with with Mothra and Godzilla trashing Tokyo?

Could not agree more Mintwithahole,
spending 1.5 mil of tax payers money
on that pile of poo, when it could have
been put to much better use is scandalous
imo
The Liverpool City Councilers seem pretty
bloody happy with themselves though!

edit: Ooops just read your more recent post
....shame on you!

Still a pile of poo though LOL

I thought the same as you at first. The rumours about it climbing all over the Liverpool skyline etc, were over the top, especially when I saw it on the back of a lorry. But one cannot underestimate the amount of tourists it brought into the city!
If you still think it was a waste of money I have some bad news for you. The city council are talking about buying the thing!

you people need to get out more this was an awesome display, from my vantage point one of the 11 operators took out a security camera and whacked some traffic lights with one of the legs! The rain held off only for the crowds to get soaked anyway, a snow machine in church street and the propane gas powered musical contraption, I for one will remember this for the rest of my life as it wasn't ruined by the health and safety PC brigade we have here the french attitude made it work for me and every one else around me.

I thought it was great. Its fun the kids all loved it and and it was unusual i hate the way weve all become so cynical about anything and everything. Taxpayers money blah blah blah it takes all the joy out of life we are quickly going to stagnate as a species if we didnt dare to explore the imagination. The spider had a whole backstory with scientists abseiling down buildings and jumping on to its back pretending to study it, it was class. We dont create magic enough, soon even children will be cynical and bored with it all.

You are so right, to think of all the billions of dollars/pounds that is spent on war, just imagine if all that cash was spent on new inventions, ideas, entertainment etc, life would be so much more fun!!

Well I predict a lot of fun inventions, technology, more advanced computers in our future thou, so be excited everyone!

It was awesome. I saw it come to life on Friday night.

The creature isn't just a mechanical spider, it was part of a story. The spider came out of a building having being disturbed by the demolition work. It clung to the side of the building and was then "taken away" by scientists to be examined. It was brought to life by a great live orchestra a top cherry pickers, and then it walked around the city centre across the weekend as the scientists guided it with the music. On Sunday it disappeared into the Mersey Tunnel....

The cost was an investment, La Machine and Artichoke brought millions of pounds to the city over the weekend, a 3 to 4 hundred percent return on the initial cost.

You should check out their other creations too, the Sultan's Elephant was incredible.

Not a waste of money in the slightest, an excellent idea with superb results.

Not a problem.

The world is full of crappiness. Things like this inspire wonder and for a brief moment make you forget that.

Like The Goonies did.
