Russia is testing West and Crimea could be target

www.washingtontimes.com

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - A key Czech leader said Friday that a resurgent Russia has begun testing the West and warned that Ukraine's strategic Crimea peninsula could become a target.

Tomas Pojar, deputy foreign minister of the Czech Republic, said Russia's strong objection to U.S. missile defense bases in his country and Poland and recent events in Georgia clearly indicate Moscow's opposition to Western influence in the former Soviet Union's sphere of influence.

"We are being tested," he told a group of U.N. journalists. "We should be careful. We should be firm."

Russia drew harsh criticism from the U.S. and Europe for recognizing two separatist Georgian territories as independent states following a short but devastating war that left Russian troops in control of a key Georgian Black Sea port and other locations deep inside Georgia.

This situation is developing rapidly, while Dick Cheney tours the region to show US support for Russia's neighbors it seems apparent that there is also a campaign to demonize Russia.

If Russia has intentions of invading these places, why haven't they?

Are they afraid of the USA?

Above you may find the related news source link interesting as well.

Do we need to worry about the Russians, or the USA?

Why is it that Eastern Europe should be so concerned with what is going on in Georgia. The conflict in S Ossetia is not new - and started in early 90's. The recent war in Georgia is just the continuation of that unsolved separatist dispute. Eastern European leaders are blowing these events way out of proportion in their anti-Russia campaign. Russia is no more of a threat to them that it was before this war, or than it was 5 years, or 10 years, or 15 years ago.

It seems that the politicians in the new NATO-bloc are raising this panic as means to justify their projects with NATO (such as the ABM shield) which are not very popular with the population of those countries. Alternatively they could be trying to draw away attention from their fledging economies.

What we are seeing is a deliberate and planned construction of a Russophobic idealogy. These countries have no reason to like Russia - but they also have no reason to fear it or actively oppose it. This antagonism is only making the problems and relations worse. Ask yourself - why is NATO and its Eastern European members doing this? What are they trying to achieve or to gain? NATO's rapid expansion is bad enough in antagonizing Russia, but now the population is brainwashed to see Russians as their mortal enemy.
