McCain draws record 38.9 mln viewers, bests Obama

LOS ANGELES, Sept 5 (Reuters) - A record 38.9 million U.S. TV viewers watched John McCain accept the Republican nomination for president on Thursday, beating the record set last week by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, Nielsen Media Research reported.

I tried to put this in breaking political news but the link is dead...

I think the best way to solve this is to have Obama/Biden in one corner, McCain/Palin in the other, full UFC fight, 5 rounds, 5 minutes each, winner takes all.

My bet on who wins, McCain/Palin...

Palin drew in more viewers than McCain did at more than 40 million. Imagine if Palin was running for President.

WOW!!!

I'm impressed ... and encouraged.

If nothing else, it proves that people ARE listening to both sides so that they can get a 'feel' for both.

I am a Republican but would never miss watching a Dem convention and I would hope that most people would feel the same way.

I thought that Palin had one million LESS viewers than Obama had which would mean she had less than McCain. I must be missing something?

Occurs he did and why not, even I watched the "show" and I am voting for none of them.

Everybody wanted to know what's new on McCain side, Palin been the first VP woman candidate was not surprise, I watch her too.

So is obvious that America is actually keeping an eye on the candidates and do not want to miss anything.

Actually I believe Palin had 37.2 million according to Nielsen ratings. Mccain had 38.9 million and Obama had 38.4 million.

Why do people continue to compare Palin to Obama? It's like comparing apples and oranges. She isn't running for President, she's running for the VP slot. I'd hope Obama's credentials were a little more impressive, but in reality, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Was the football a bit one sided then? Don't know the final result, switched off after the third quarter.

I believe this is exactly the case. The DNC set the stage and I believe a good deal of dems watched the RNC speeches. It doesn't mean more people support McCain at all. I tuned in to both myself and even watched the Independant speeches.

I just believe that more people are trying to make sure what they are hearing is in fact what these people are saying. I just hope that the electonric voting machines are fixed before November.

And I don't mean 'fixed' as in the way they were during the last election. hehe

It appears to be resulting in a drop in the polls for McCain, and a surge for Obama. Maybe it wasn't such a good thing that so many people watched?

I think more people watched the McCain speech because of all the hurricanes that are going on right now. They tuned in to get hurricane info, not to listen to that crazy vietnamese baby killer.
