U.S. unemployment rate hits a five-year high

WASHINGTON - The nation’s unemployment rate zoomed to a five-year high of 6.1 percent in August as employers slashed 84,000 jobs, dramatic proof of the mounting damage a deeply troubled economy is inflicting on workers and businesses alike.

The Labor Department’s report, released Friday, showed the increasing toll the housing, credit and financial crises are taking on the economy.

Actually the Democrats did address this. That was one of their biggest messages...

Bush presidency == Bad economy
Palin/McCain == More of the same.

Seriously though, if you want to make a politicla point, do it in Decision 2008 or ATB.

And that's the same as the level of 2003, which was millions higher than the Clinton years. 94% of American is still employed. The headline should read:

BREAKING NEWS!!! 94% OF AMERICA REMAINS EMPLOYED.......

Distortion of facts at it's best.

When Clinton took on the role of President, he also inherited one of the highest unemployment rates from all time (from none other than Bush Sr.) at 7.5%.

So in 1992, when Clinton took over, it was at 7.5%. In 1999, when he was leaving office, he handed it over at a staggering 4.1% (in December). 4.2% for the year of 1999.

I just don't understand how people can make up garbage like "OMG well Clinton was worse" with no facts behind it.

Here's an example of why I loved President Clinton (click on the graph and look in the section where 1992-2000 is):



His entire Presidency is one sexy chart. Anytime you need to talk statistics about Clinton, you can always pull up a chart, and see 8 years of exactly what needed to happen.

If it's GDP, there's 8 years of a steady increase. If it's jobs, there's 8 years of a steady rise in jobs. If it's unemployment, there's 8 years of a steady decline in unemployment.

That man was a magician.

its bacically that neither party platform is addressing unemployment
as if it were a big concern....

its clear that all parties were prepared to live by the false government statistics- which were not supposed to be showing joblessness at +6%...
so neither party was never prepared to address the issue...Surprise!!

the recently published & closer to reality BLS numbers
came as a total surprise to the two tandems of Repub/Dem. puppets !

Here is a link on how they figure out unemployment. Including an explanation of how you are counted as "unemployed" only when you are receiving "unemployment"

And one reason the economy is failing is, we no longer produce anything. But oh well. we will all remain complacent as we lose our jobs, our homes, out health, and get shoved slowly into slavery.

You know what's bad about this, that we're becoming accustomed to this kind of news. And we're no longer surprised hearing them, becoming insensitive to it.

I'm not sure whether it's because people don't perceive that it won't get any worse or simply because they're trying to numb themselves and don't want to know.
