Apocalypse Not: Atom-smasher won't doom planet, says study

newsinfo.inquirer.ne t

PARIS -- People who fear a powerful atom-smashing machine, due to start operations next Wednesday, will cause Earth to be gobbled up or reduced to grey goo can rest assured, according to a study released Friday.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been shadowed by Internet-fuelled concerns that it will release energies so powerful that it will create a runaway black hole that will engulf the planet, or a "strangelet" particle that would transform Earth into a lump of strange matter.

I admit I don't have enough capability to know which one is true. Other side saying it's ok, the other side is worried that you hear a lot of scary consequence.

The pros saying ""Nature has already conducted the equivalent of about a hundred thousand LHC experimental programs on Earth -- and the planet still exists,".

Well that is very comforting isn't it? But,,, that was done "naturally" This time, it is not. So there is a difference right?

Until they push the button on Wednesday, we will probably know.

My position on this issue? I really don't know. Even the experts don't really agree with their statements.

How does a non scientist like me can know the truth?
