Theory, discovery, or invention of a dead man/woman

I know many of the members here at ATS know about some scientist who invented something or discovered something or just an average everyday joe/jane that invented/discovered/uncovered something that probably led to their untimely death. Thought it would be interesting to see just how many different known/unknown ones there are.

For those that are posted, if someone knows something more, please refer to that post by using the reply to button, so we can see the original post, adding any extra info you might have.

Don't know how we can keep them in order other than linking to another site, but try to read through all of the posts so duplicate ones don't get posted.
