President Bush on Sunday said he would skip the Republican National Convention and head instead to Texas to be with evacuees and emergency responders. He warned a jittery Gulf Coast that it could face "significant flooding."

I knew I wouldn't hear Bush say "I support McCain and I wish for him to be the next president."

1.) Now McCain won't get bad rep from having Bush/Cheney there..

2.)Because Bush doesn't want McCain to be Prez.. For 2008 elections will be cancelled due to War with Iran.

Hahahaha, when has a war ever stopped the election process? Ok...I'm think I'm done laughing...if the storm is bad enough I will bet that the Republicans use Wednesday's RNC coverage to collect donations for aid. It's just good PR, they would be stupid not to do it. Obama told us he was going to make change without telling anyone how...so the GOP just needs to show they aren't Bush's minions (true or not) and that they "have a heart"...I'm sick of hearing Republicans say their RNC suspension of events to be non-political...because it's all politics, they are trying to straighten up their image.

With the Dem's saying that McCain will be nothing more than a Bush third term, the more distance John boy puts between himself and George the better.

This storm is a godsend for the Republicans.

George Bush can skip the convention and have a very valid excuse for doing so. McCain can stand on the podium and salute the President for doing his job in a time of national crisis.

Bush passed that law that states if we go into a state of martial law nation wide, then the curent president stays in office until it is over... remember?
I don't think it is anything worth worring about though. As I stated I think he just wants to go back to his hometown bar and stay a while.

It seems to me that, things being what they appear, it's a blessing in disguise around the Republican camp.

First, as stated, McCain won't have to deal with the smudge on his bigger picture by having the unpopular president, nor his vice, speaking at what would be "McCain's" convention. Bush and McCain got their trunks twisted up in t'other in 2000, to wit.

Second, the necessary stammer-step taken by pundits and spokespeople on the subject of Gov. Palin hardly belies the collective "Who?" still being disseminated. It could have been that much more maddening of a convention for some of the G.O.P.'s dearest of delegates as the PR machine [the hardest-working one in showbusiness!] struggled to explain this unknown who would be one heartbeat away...

Thirdly, and most conspiratorially, perhaps the biggest picture of all was painted long ago; in reference to your third comment, "2.)", you do make an interesting speculation...there's so many crazy theories out there, that I forget to include some of them in my outlook.. you know what I mean!? The world's changing...

That said, your possibility does exist. Language is in-place, streamlining the legalistic side of putting far more Executive powers in the hands of the C in C...postponing, among other things, Election Day.

And that having been said, if there's one thing I've learned from ATS...

Martial Law is not a war, and Iran could hardly cause a nationwide martial law. And the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act that made declaring martial law easy from the executive branch has been repealed...remember?

well it's official. the weather channel just said gustav is definately gonna hit all the platforms and refineries. that explains why georgie and dick are gonna be down there and not at the rnc.

This is only beneficial for John McCain and the Republicans. George Bush being there would just reinforce the notion that McCain is a third-term Bush.

Bush couldn't plan if he wanted to get a good wipe in. He will go down in history as the MOST disfunctional president. Mark my words.

I admit I don't know much about conspiracies, but why aren't any of the major players going to the RNC? Gov. Shwarz. says he can't go because of his budget won't allow him to? When has a budget ever stopped a politician of anything? Sec. Chertoff will be in the storm in Baton Rouge. Very odd that the Sec. of D. is in the path of a hurricane when he's telling everyone else to leave. McCain won't even be there to accept the nomination and Bush won't be there. Isn't this a bit odd that no one is going, and some, instead of going somewhere "safe," are heading into the Gulf States into harms way? I find this all a bit odd. Am I reading too much into this?
