A UFO enthusiast accused of the "biggest military hack of all time" lost his appeal to the Law Lords against extradition to the United States today.

Gary McKinnon, an unemployed 42-year-old, faces up to 70 years in prison if convicted in the US of sabotaging vital defence systems.

This stupid thread has floated around here for months.

Gary McKinnon hacked into military and NASA computers, deleted files and installed malicious software.

He knew what he was doing and all of his attempts to fight extradition have failed, including appeals to the House of Lords and to the European courts.

He hasn't even been tried yet. He was offered a plea agreement in which he could serve a few months in a federal 'spa' and then return home, but he chose not to accept it and now faces up to 70 years in prison.

He is an idiot and I wish we would stop giving him so much publicity because it is promoting ignorance instead of denying it.

You are wrong. Although GM does not deny gaining access to computers he has repeatedly stated that the figure of 5,000 dollars damage is nothing but a trumped-up charge, as damage below that precise figure would have meant that he was not liable to extradition.

Quote from p.3 of said document:

...caused loss aggregating more than $5,000 in value during a one-year period to the United States Army

There are several other aspects of the indictment that he denies if you listen to the interviews I provided (which, contrary to your assertion, do constitute evidence - oral testimony of the accused to be precise).

He insists that he caused no damage to computers at all - never mind $5,000.

Well, whatever your thought's on Gary Mckinnon at least the bloke has some balls. He obviously stumbled on something that caught his eye. It's human nature to be nosey, but unfortunately his noseyness has got him into trouble with the our self ritcheous brothers across the pond. Considering he was'nt even on us turf i find it all very odd, especially as the British Gov'nt should be hanging on to clever people like him, not giving him up to spend the rest of his days in jail! That's just plain nasty and a betrayal of the highest order.
