I have witnessed many a fireball in the sky [I go to the desert quite alot, and it is very remote, 6.5+ mag skies on a bad day]. I believe them all to be meteors of course. If you have witnessed the fireballs, and they travel just right, they make a sound. The sound is difficult to describe (i am no poet), but the sound is unmistakable, almost like an ocean tide rolling in with massive white water force. For more elaboration it sounds like walking into a casino [minus slots and cheering] or into a 7-11 market where as soon as the sliding door is opened a massive wind above head takes course and blows. I have no idea why the door does this, maybe air conditioning to keep it in or bugs? Whatever,

Anyway, I am babbling here. Point is, if a meteor fireball can make this noise [not too mention the beautuful sight], why don't the UFO's make this sound? OK, satellites don't do this, they are out of the atmosphere. Fireballs, the are hitting and breaking up.

I don't believe any UFO that has been seen or witnessed or talked about make this type of sound. Why is that and what are your thoughts?

Thanks and have a great night,

You know when you have a stick on fire? Then you wave it around in the air and it makes that whooshing sound? Same thing. The sound of the oxygen being burned as the flame reaches it or?? I don't feel like lookin git up but a common sound. I also have seen a fireball. this one was over down town San Diego in broad daylight tho'. Super low and quite large I might add. Never heard anything about it either after that. Very weird. Lots of Video on 'em on google.

During the Perseids I believe it was in summer of '07 I was out around 2am sky watching and it was absolutely great! So I was watching just fine for about an hour until I heard a distinct "SWOOSH!"ing sound. Now I was outside in the parking lot right next to a road at 3am so I was very alarmed. There were no cars or people in my direct area and I was spooked so I went inside. Never could explain the noise I had a slight thought it could of been from the aerial show but why didnt all the other meteors make noise? I dont know. Your post brings up something that is very interesting and hopefully will result in an answer from someone!

I had a similar experience happen one night with my girlfriend walking home instead of waiting for a bus, and this giant fireball like object but it had like a green blue purplish color. And directly over us for about a second flew north and disappeared, and i now think i may have heard the same sound.. But I do live in ontario, canada and we were walking north, and this flew south to north. Pretty amazing sight, and gave me goosebumps, it also did have a trail with behind it.. But I heard no reports of this. It happened about either during the canada day weekend... or victoria day weekend, at about 1am..

human8, racerzeke and puhatek:

No doubt. The sound is unmistakable and so eery it does give off a hair standing on end package. There has to be an explanation, the thing that is odd, is one would think think there is a sonic boom, but none that I have heard.

Take care,

Its also seems like it may have not been the first time for me, but I also remember another time but a few years back when i was about 17. And hanging out at this lawn bowling shack at about 11pm on a clear night with no moon out I think.. And did see for about 2 seconds a similar fireball but not like the overhead experience I had, but this one was also going from south to north but it was more east of me..

My friend who was with me, also caught this in flight, but we did not hear the woosh sound, but it was quite a "trip" to see..

I also noticed in one of my photo's that I had been taking while I was up in muskoka, a streak of light going through a photo during a long exposure of 8 seconds.. But i should look at the photo again, to see if Im not dreaming of such a pic.

The first and only UFO I Have ever seen was similar to yours. almost exactly the way you kind of describe it. I mean mine just looked like a fireball but not just fire like something underneath. but when i saw mine it was completely silent. I briefly talk about what i saw on my first post. It's in my post history. easy to find b/c i dont talk much on these boards unless I have something to say. or in this case. the first person to describe something like what i saw. cool beans
