She had no right to make a speech, plain and simple. it isn't family politics, you dont elect the best family, you elect a president. More proof he isn't ready yet.

That is one of the silliest statements I've read thus far. This is a political convention, a high end meet and greet, if you will. And that, whether you like it or not, includes anyone this particular party wishes to include on the stage.

Believe me, when it comes time for the Republican National Convention, you are going to see the exact same thing occur. McCain's wife will be standing by her husband's side, and there is a very strong possibility that she will say a few words herself. Why? Because it is a meet and greet.

Michelle Obama's speech is not any kind of indication as to whether Obama is presidential material. She is a strong, intelligent, articulate woman who is a fitting compliment to Barack.

You are exactly what the libs are all about, you flame when someone questions Obama and then make these"bottom feeder" remarkes about McCain's wife.Your a total hypocrite.
As far as Obama's wife's speech, she has been controled as they put it.Her speech probably made her sick, that was not who she is.
Have you all seen the setting for Obama's speech, this guy really does think he is a GOD.

I really don't care whether or not you were impressed by her speech or not...nor do I think you're jealous.

I liked the speech for what it was, a fine piece of political drama. Ultimately meaningless.

You may, or may not, have noticed, I'm one of the few around here who have no axe to grind, for what ever reason.

Personally? I think most all of you need to take a deep breath and back off the rhetoric a trifle. But that's just me...

Mr. and Mrs. Obama IMO do not know what its like to a middle class person in these days and times. Mrs. Obama's speech did nothing but further influence me to NOTE Vote for her Husband.

Very true, and the Obama's keep reiterating that each of them grew up with struggling single mothers. What a load of BS!

Obama was with his single Mom for not even 10 years, and during that time, she married a rich Indonesian Muslim. After she brought Obama to the Grandparents in Hawaii, he had it even better! His Grandparents are/were rich bankers.

Michelle, she grew up rich.

They have no idea what it's like to go from paycheck to paycheck.

If they did, Obama wouldn't be saying "Inflate your tires" to save Gas.

Obama would also not be saying, well "eat out less and don't drive as much".

It's rediculous.

All the Obama's want are 300 million slaves.

Not gonna happin.

Hey JetX...The structure of your posts...the "appearance" of having some knowledge about Obama's biography and then what can only be described as a conscious decision to distort/omit and flat out lie...well you seem to do a lot of cut and paste from the farthest of the right wing web sites.

That and always the FEAR thing. The favorite of any propagandist...You weren't even being subtle "All the Obama's want are 300 million slaves. "

Always end a propaganda piece with FEAR. Like the period on a sentence.

Let's start here jet...you said she was "married a rich indonesian muslim" and in an earlier post you called him a "Rich oil man"

You mean the geoligist turned government laison/translator for mobil oil? Soetero?

Actually given what I have seen you post over the last several months, I will just assume you are lieing unless I see a Source.

I think she did good from what I saw. I think she would make a great 1st lady. However, I focus on the canditates rather than their wives.

I just hope, with all my heart, that Obama wins the election. Finally there is a man of the people running for president.

McCain doesn't know many houses he own. President Bush Junior and his dad President Bush Senior, they are -so- extremely rich people. Are you sure that United States is truly a democrazy when these rich guys get to be president and then the rich guys son becomes president too? Just think about that for a while..

Barack Obama represents the ordinary American. He is unique because he did not start with billions of dollars. He doesn't represent the super rich or special interests shady corporations. His success comes from the support from the average American.

It's a mystery to me why there is a republican president. When McCain got a question whats considered to be rich he replied that you're rich if you earn 5 mil usd / year or more. So if you earn like 4 mils a year, you're struggling I guess.. What planet is he from?!?!? These extremely rich people doesn't get it.

With lies and distortion and a BUNCH of money they manage to get elected though. I hope this is the year when americans take back their power, by voting for Barack.

It's very possible as Obama's sexual orientation is highly questionable in lieu of the murder of his supposed former gay lover and another gay man that claims doing Coke etc. with Obama.

Obama is an engineered candidate. What you see now was planned several years ago, including his switch to Christianity (while remaining Muslim).

Just what are you hoping to accomplish by making such outlandish statements. It is sad to see someone who cannot reasonably debate real issues resort to smear tactics.

And, please don't even try to deny or justify your actions. Your character defamations are lame enough as it is, and you'll only look more foolish.

That said, Michelle Obama did a magnificent job delivering her speech at the DNC.

Kucinich rocked! He is just adorable. A small man with a big message. Hasn't it always been that way?
WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!! he exclaimed to a nation you can just tell that he
loves. He was a genuine crowd rouser full of the old populist approach that the Democrats were once known for in the 1930s through the 1950s.
I think it's pretty telling that he got the really pretty lady for a wife too. She sees more in him than just his appearance.

I've read hundreds of posts on here about the candidates and many of them have said things like "she's hot", and "wow what a hottie" and things of that nature about Palin, but none about Mrs. Obama. Am I the only one that see's some bias here? I mean, I happen to think that Michelle Obama is absolutely stunning in the good looks department, but what the hell does that have to do with positions on the issues?

I guess my point is, that we shouldn't be voting for someone based on looks or personality or the way they speak, or anything other than the way they stand on the issues. Part of my point also is that, like it or not, some folks will only say that the white republican woman is "pretty" while democrats and other races women get no "good looks" remarks.

Just like all the white folks in the audience, and I mean all the white folks (because that was all you saw) at the publican convention vs. all the diversity in ethnicity at the Democratic party convention, there are folks who will only see beuty in white republican females when in actuallity beauty is within all folks and that includes males, females, blacks, whites, asians, hispanics, gay and lesbians, and all human beings.

I just find it peculiar that so many say she is pretty, but not one post that I have seen says the same thing for Michelle Obama, or Hillary Clinton, or Barack, or anyone other than Palin? I think that should tell us something.

I came in here, curious to see what the fuss was about, since I have not seen it yet.

As a precaution: beautiful speeches are what Hitler gave.

Not about that monster, mind you, but more that we can talk about the pretty flowers and uplifting comments until the day we sink into historical oblivion. The beauty of the speech has little to do with sound thinking. That's really all I saw through the first page of this thread: surface, no depth. How empty, how worthless, how depraved, is this speech and how gullible are we if this is all we can get from it is the superficial? Just because it is shiny? Being in awe of the speech without being able to note what the details of the speech was about means it did you no good to hear it. And if that's all that most got from it was the wow factor, what use is it for me to see it? Even a critique should go into what was actually discussed.

Now that being said, I'm quite sure that more was stated, through 5 pages.

Now, since I don't care about how the speech was delivered, but what was said, the transcript:
Here.

Roughly 5-6 "this is a great people" comments, meant to show appreciation to humanity in general, before getting into any real information. It strokes the ego, and sets the tone for what she wants to state.

Then comes the "what our life was like before this". Certainly hilights trying to be normal. Problem is that I know lots of families that can't afford a date night (or think they can't), can't afford to put their kids in sports, and certainly have little time to be home with their kids. Could set up some envy of their life, when trying to display her family as wholesome and normal.

A touch of sympathy for her father's illness, possible.

Describing selling today for the future, and calling that being a man. (Her dad, putting his kids through college while taking out loans to do so.) Hrm.

Talks about Barak's grandmama not being able to advance in her career because she was a woman. Tugs at the heartstrings, and places the listener in the position to feel the issues of 40 years ago, today.

Finally talk of the American Dream and reaching for it.

Then finally onto talk about how tough it is to make tough decisions. And what Obama "did", in his previous terms, without data, so I'd have to take her at her word. Dangerous, but to a crowd that will accept it without much criticism, so the crowd will applause, then giving the viewer at home the pressure to conform to the audience's reaction. Typical of speeches, not something specific to her.

Back to the "how hard our lives were". And "I love my husband more now!" And back to the "everyman". Finally hold up the shining "American Dream". Then goes back to family. Then "Children are our future".

So: no pertinent information or data. It is completely an emotional tug at the heartstrings, with a few smatterings of various claims, without proof-at-that-moment, but wrapped up in shininess so that way those who don't chase facts can swallow it?

I really dislike this type of speech. It is fluff. It is useless. It is completely emotional pandering.

It totally works.
