MIAMI -- A fire broke out at a gas filling plant Wednesday in western Miami-Dade County, causing the area to be evacuated. It was unclear if there
were any injuries.
It was not known what caused tanks with acetylene gas to explode, Jim Ely, a spokesman for Airgas Inc., told WTVJ in Miami. Company officials did not
immediately return phone calls.
"We don't know the cause of the accident," Ely said. He said there were no injuries reported.
Miami-Dade police spokesman Robert Williams said police and firefighters were on the scene trying to get the fire under control. Local television
stations reported evacuations within a half-mile radius of the fires.
Television news footage showed several small explosions shooting out of tanker trucks.
