TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran said on Monday it was ready to help fellow Muslim states launch satellites into orbit after it successfully put a dummy satellite into orbit -- a move that may increase Western suspicions over its atomic ambitions.

"I am announcing now that Iran is ready to launch satellites of friendly Islamic countries into space," Taghipour told state television.

I know the timing of this this isn't coincidental. It's my opinion that if Iran such as opens a wrong jet hanger they will be blown to pieces and turned into a giant Wal-Mart. I don't see how they will even get close to making this possible.

Muslims in space. Cheap shot I know... Still IRAN joins the space race WOOHOO. Now most of your muslims have this thing about being truthful... I wanna know what Iran will have to say about the Van Allen radiation belts or if they have any Lunar aspirations... Muslims on the moon.. (Sorry Islam it just sounds funny in my mind)

But why, why can't they have their own satellite? I just don't see how them launching a satellite into orbit, coincides with them trying to develop a nuke. Two different things.

Oh you gotta be kidding. Satellite launch technology was a byproduct of ICBM development. Yuri Gagarin rode a modified Russian ballistic missile into space. Same with Iranians.

No, maybe I should have worded it different. It seems as though anything coming out of Iran must be bad.

Launching a TV satellite = Nuke
Secret Military Base = Nuke
Research & Development = Nuke

Come on, we have these same exact things in the U.S., but do those develop nukes? No.

I am tired of the West trying to say Iran is big and bad and anything and everything they do, must be bad.

Yeah, I noticed that too...
It seems people think everything to do with Iran revolves around nuke building.
If a shred of the accusations were right, Iran would already have nukes. They don't... so clearly the accusers should just sit down, and shut up.

Whats next I wonder?...

A farmer in Iran has just grown the worlds largest carrot. An international press conference is being assembled in Washington to discuss the potential nuclear threat of the new carrot.

It's not clear yet where NATO stands on the issue regarding Iran's largest carrot, but discussions in the UN spark fear an air strike on Iran's farms may be a possible response in the future. Israel has already pledged support with it's full arsenal of over-ripened tomatoes and rotten cabbages.

Nuclear enrichment and rocket testing are directly linked, to make a bomb you need highly enriched uranium and the means to detonate and deliver it. ie, rocket testing = ICBM's!

Anyway back to topic...

Iran is offering this technology to Muslim countries and trying to assure them that they are friends and are powerful enough to fill any gap if Muslim countries ditch their alleigance with the US. Basically they are saying, you dont need the US, we can offer you all these techonologies etc.

So what is wrong with that? The U.S. is not the only person that should be holding all of the keys anyway.

It's going to get to the point where if the Iranians test a new pair of military binoculars it will set off Alarm bells in Washington.

So they have The Price is Right on their TV screens now.
Should we be alarmed? Hardly...

It's one thing to attach a satellite onto the end of a 2 ton scrap-yard, fill it with fuel and fire it off into space..

It's quite another to actually launch a powered orbital vehicle that can position itself in low-orbit around the Earth, descend from orbit and shower it's target accurately with multiple warheads.

Iran is nowhere near that stage.
Don't get your panties in a bunch here.

Satellite launch vehicles are precisely that: Satellite Launch Vehicles.

They are not 2nd/3rd stage ICBM's that could carry warheads.
The satellite payload weighed about 160kg or so, that's nowhere near enough for a couple of MIRV warheads.
