1/3 of the mass of the Asteroid belt is in one object called Vesta. It is spherical just like our moon but smaller and made out of mostly water ice. It is one of the best planetoids for a colony in the outer part of the solar system.
If there was a planet there then its mass was transferred to another orbit and became part of one of the other planets. That might be why Jupiter has so many moons.
