Still I dont know how people can choose sides pn this issue when I think that its been clearly documented that BOTH sides are at guilt on this issue.

This has less to do with Georgia sovereign integrity or Russia trying to protect defenseless South Ossetians, certainly thats what is at core, but these recent developments were planned with anticipation by BOTH sides. At the end a lot of people have died on BOTH side unnecessary by the calculated actions of BOTH countries leaders.

You couldnt have said it any better. Exactly what ive been saying on the situation. Kudos to you for an excellent post.

Look, honestly....What does a 12 year old know? Georgia is a mess right now of militia and reg troops fighting Russia. The thing is a mess, and the longer it goes on the worse it will get. Which is what Russia wants. We need too roll in about 25000 Marines to help with cleaning up this mess, and I bett Russia hauls ass out of there.

good plan - and those 25000 marines face off against 30000 russian regulars and we have WW3

smart. not.

Do people watch the Video?
Answers like: what does a 12 yo know, she is only 12 ..

She was with her mother and her mother said the very same thing.

And having lived in the conflict zone they know much better than any of us who was doing the slaughter and where the shelling was coming from. Unless you assume that Russia was killing their own citizen to make a point?

And Russians are not guilty for defending helpless civilians.

They are Heroes and did the right thing in dismantling any capability for further killings by the georgian army.

Let me tell you this, if Russia didnt intervene, the georgians would have carried on their cleansing with impunity because they are backed by the West.

Is that what you advocate?

Around July, Georgia imported some weaponry from the USA, Israel, Turkey, Poland, and other nations and sent an extra 1400 troops to Iraq to warm up (1000 of which were recalled home for the current conflict on August 8).

Excellent research and I'm so glad to see someone finally look beyond the events of last week. I'll also add that the Georgian troops weren't only training in Iraq, they also accomplished a PR coup by raising their contribution to the 3rd highest troop levels of any countries. They can now say (and have said) "look, we're the West's biggest supporter in Iraq", even though they only contributed 300 troops and no equipment for the first 5 years of the conflict.

I'm going to say this has been planned since the middle of last year at least, since the Georgian troops numbers started swelling in October.

People living in SO are russians that separated from Georgia (in 1990 i think) when the Soviet Union collapsed. They are just every other country from the SU. The difference is that they are not approved from the US and big part of EU (like Kosovo ... almost the same thing actually). So they're not part of Georgia for almost 20years. One day before attach Shakasvili told to the press that he declares peace from his side and that he won't attack SO. Then at night he attacked them. Russian troops came there about 24hours after Georgians started the atack so Russians couldn't atack them first ( and wouldn't cause people don't attack their own nation - people living in SO are Russians for long time). So you can see that Georgia attacked another country and saying that russians did .... then they started to say that SO is their country?

And if the Russians were so bad and attacked SO, 90% of people who run wouldn't run in Russia but in Georgia. I think people wouldn't run to the country that trying to kill them.

By dismissing the propaganda of one side people seem to fall victims of the propaganda of the other side.

Seriously, now the russians are heros? Heroes you say? Rescuing the world from the big meanie Georgia bully? Yeah right. That's exactly what the history of the past one hundred years teaches us.

Georgia might be the puppet of the west, but countries like Georgia, living in the shadow of countries like Russia, often have no choice but to be a puppet of one of the big guys.

I'm not taking sides on this conflict, i'm just telling you the russians also got a propaganda machine and they had A LOT of time to perfect it.

Probably a lot more than you, seeing as she was actually there while it was happening, not sat in front of her TV.

And I bet it doesn't. Russia won't back down just because the US tells them to, just as the US wouldn't back out of Iraq if Russia told them to.

Anyway whether the girl was cut off or not, they still got to say what they wanted to say, and hopefully this will make people realise that there's 2 sides to a story and that news reports might not automatically be telling the truth.

I will not use the testimony of a scared child, and a mother who "could" be as much against her own government as some here are

as a basis for truth as to who shot bombs from who knows how far away and why

I agree that there is a mish mash of activity going on and the events that are being clouded by spin and propaganda from all sides

I think only a fool would make such important judgments that define truth of what is happening over there from this sound-bite alone

I did hear the news host continue to try to interrupt her while she (the mother) was plainly attempting to make a political statement as to who did what

I wont event try to argue whether or not there was conspiracy involved in trying to end the interview short based on it content as nothing meaningful will be gained from it

we already know the media is biased so why ague over old news?

peace

The threads are so much clearer now that Ive started using ignore. The propaganda and lies dont show up anymore. And reality shows thru.

Jeah, maybe we can make a list of people on your ignore list, and have them shot against the wall of ATS-headquarters, cause you're so much better.

Ignoring is for the weak, and to call upon people to ignore someone is just disgusting imo.

I do agree with the rest you said though.

So, what are you saying? Was the video meant as propaganda?

If it is, it is exactly the opposite of what FOX has been reporting the last days. So this would only hurt their version.

Before you put me on your ignore list too, may i say that not all of us who don't see Georgia as the big bad wolf in this conflict are "right wing nut jobs that support Bush and WW3".

And when i say "not all of us" i mean myself.

Some of us (again, myself) feel that just because we don't agree with the external politics of USA doesn't necessarily mean we should agree with Russia's external politics.

Or blame a small insignifiant poor country of 4 million people of all the evil in the world.

Oh and just a quick question for all of you:

Do you think that the fact that the girl is of russians origins, as her family name indicates, and the fact that her relatives are russian ethnics, again indicated by the aunt's family name, might have played a role in this story?

Do you think that if the girl and her family would have been georgian ethnics the story as told by the girl would have sounded the same?

Oh but in that case you would have shouted that the girl obviously spreading propaganda for the georgians.

Too bad we never get any input from georgian members on this site. You know, to hear THEIR part of the story. I guess they're all busy with their country being at war. Good for us that our countries are not invaded by russian tanks and we can all sit in peace at our computers and fight about who's wrong and who's right, hm?

WOW. Great vid. Shows how trashy FOX News is. This is a good example of the propaganda machine.

You must not watch news, especially fox. THe consistenly do this in all their interviews. If any of you think that fox news did this purposely watch their broadcast for a 1/2 hours. THey do this to all their guests. I actually get quite annoyed and think it is rude but it is normal for the station, no matter what the topic is. Also I am in no way sticking up for Georgia nor am I saying the media isnt suppressing what is really going on over there. However what Fox news did was what they normally do on almost all their interviews. Actually they very rarely let those people come back, they usually just cut them off and thats it.

The biggest problem with the vid of the reporter, we really DONT KNOW who is shooting at her, you cant see the sniper...It could be ossetian, georgian, OR russian....I think them labeling the sniper as russian is just more slant...

Im begging to think that reliable info is becoming more and more scarce these days. Sometimes i really dont even wanna know just how much is propaganda, due to the fact that it would probably make me sick. this conflict has opened up my eyes to just how biased US MSM is....

I am not surprised one bit that FOX cut the girl and her aunt off. Although I don't think it was to quell them; I don't think the broadcaster was thinking at all about the controversy of their account. I think he was thrown off and didn't know how to respond to it on top of the fact that his job is to move each interview along and into each commercial in a timely manner. That said, Fox news should have skipped the commercial and jumped on the contradiction of their story. I think if it was a seasoned journalist doing the interview (if he is supposed to be one then he blew it) then the interview may have continued. You would think they would salivate at the chance to be the first to air a contradiction to the info. already in the main stream media.

We also have to realize that each will think they are in the right; isn't that what war is all about? I was watching CNN the other day and they were interviewing the Pres. of Georgia and he too was cut off to air video footage of Georgia. I thought, how silly, why not just skip the vid. and get it from the horses mouth. Now in retrospect I/we really have to think about who is feeding that horse.

I thank you, O.P., for bringing this to my/our attention. It is good to see it from another angle.

I think that these wars are really about everyone scurrying to protect oil, vie for oil and or scavenge for it.

Our world needs to wake up and learn to solve the Earth's problems together and not for individual countries. This will be our downfall no one country will prevail alone. If we continue like this it will be the demise of us all.

This is somewhat off topic but -I have been thinking alot about Pakistan and If you look at Pakistan it's almost the same situation with in-fighting and U.S. as "ally" and Pakistan military in not so good standing with India. I don't know enough about either country's crisis (Georgia or Pakistan), but from what it looks like from here the Georgian people and the Pakistani people are trapped. (135,000 Pakistanis have fled al quedan militants already from the tribal areas). Our worlds our caving in.

-Sorry about the tangent; I am very disheartened about our current state of existence.

light and love,

-anyone

You have not studied the situation one bit and have fallen victim to Russian propaganda. This situation is not happening in a vacuum.

For almost 20 years this has been a very slow moving conflict, and for those 20 years, Russia has had de facto control of South Ossetia. During that 20 year period, Russia has done absolutely nothing to stop ethnic violence between Georgians and Ossetians within the break-away region. (And in the case of Abkhazia, Russia sat back and watched full-fledged ethnic cleansing).

So far, despite both sides claims to the contrary, there has been no evidence of ethnic cleansing during the current conflict.* If you have evidence, other than the claims of Russia, that there was ethnic cleansing or that Georgia was committing acts of ethnic cleansing during the August 7 - 8 flare up, please present it. If there was "ethnic cleansing" both sides have been doing a piss-poor job of it, and could learn a thing or two from the Serbs, Kosovars, and Abkhazia). The claims of ethnic cleansing are nothing more than an attempt by both sides to garner sympathy of the larger world.

(But to be certain, there have been incidents of ethnic cleansing in South Ossetia, by both sides, in the past.)
