I'm a bit confused about Russia's new stealth fighter program. Are India and Brazil now involved in the PAK-FA program or are they involved in new programs based on PAK-FA tech? Just curious if anbody's got any info on the subject.

All the same IMHO...

Here's a possible difference.. between the Russian and Indian versions that is..

The bone of contention is that Russia has already frozen the design parameters of its FGFA, the single-seater Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA, the first prototype of which is likely to take to the skies by 2009.

India, however, wants a twin-seater FGFA built to its requirements, which will obviously require several design changes. With the FGFA project expected to cost $8-10 billion, a cash-starved Russia is agreeable to the idea of having both single and twin-seater versions.

Russia's been pretty hush hush on the PAK-FA and its derivitives. Kinda suprized the only real differences between the original design and the Indian and Brazillian ones is the number of seats; kinda thought it would have been a bit more significant. Thanks for the info!

Im quite sure the brazillian version will have a emphasis on long range.

My understanding of the project is that Russia has their design for PAK-FA frozen. India bought into the project with the intent of having their own specialized version as well as technological transfer. Brazil bought in after their own FX fighter project was dropped. Russia gets money and the countries get dealt into the project. It is my suspicion that the system will be similar to the Flanker, where there are single- and double-seater versions as well as other little things that can be put in or taken out: things like Western electronics, maybe canards. This will probably account for the differences in requirements, and therefore, differences in aircraft between the three different participants.
