Do you, or anybody else know the name of our State Department official that stated, something to the effect, that it "appeared" Georgia was responsible for the aggression? I remember reading that last Friday or Saturday, but can't recall the link or the person's name...it was, of coarse, a direct contradiction of Rice who commented on the conflict in the same hour/s.

This is the best i could come up with in a quick search ..

A senior State Department official told TIME that on Aug. 7 he personally warned the Georgian Foreign Minister "not to get into a military tangle" with the Russians. "The Russians are looking for an excuse to kill Georgians," the official says he told the minister

Just discovered a Reuter's article revealing an e-mail that predicted the Georgia/Russian incident 2 days before it occurred.

You can see it in this thread.

it appears to be scripted to me and your link just substantiates this is just another movie playing to keep us busy.

LMAO the first picture from that link above has a guy in uniform that looks like Olmos.. The guy who plays Adm Adama on battlestar galactica

No, he was the thin-dude in Miami Vice. He had the thin-tie, and the thin-mustache, and the thin-vocal cords...and he liked linguine.

Same guy - and the guy in the picture does have an eerie resemblance to Olmos as Adama, down to the uniform and the moustache Adama occasionally wears.

If he tosses any Cylons out any airlocks, we'll know it's him

After the the guns are silent , Georgia will/may have to face a difficult decision, Deal with a Russian peace keeping force that will certainly keep them from NATO or accept South Ossetia as a part of the Russian state. Most probably the Georgian leader, by now has been flown out of the country

This Georgian girl showed some real guts there. If you compare her with her President... Wait, you can't. She was composed and kept talking. My respect.

Very unpleasant. I suppose it reminds us of the reality. A couple of days ago I came across a film of the brutal behaviour of Russian soldiers in an unprovoked attack shortly before hostilities broke out, but decided not to post it, knowing that brutality is going to be taking place on both sides, so it effectively doesn't prove much.

However shooting a civilian is definitely not something we should expect, even in time of war. I suppose it could be argued journalists are deliberately targeted, as they can influence hearts and minds. In this case the person who shot her has increased my dislike of the movement for South Ossetian independence. The South Ossetians fighting for it have also been reported as so brutal even the Russian general in Gori can't stop them looting and pillaging - he's wiped his hands of responsibility for their actions!

I am ever more willing to believe such people deliberately goaded Georgia as a means to achieving their end. They are nothing more than bandits.

The Russian Army is basically treating Georgia like a playground. There is no defense for the looting going on and just watching all this video confirms my suspicions.

People attack American soldiers all the time and we see this same idiodic behavior constantly from other countries and its "no big deal" Well I will come out and say it then......Its time for the U.S. to make a stand against a corrupt Russia.

Russian government and ideals are flawed way beyond what anyone should tolerate. Allies of Georgia should put troops in there and hould be a protective force againsts this menace that is Russia. World War 3 may not be here but it seems obvious that the Cold War is back and Russia wants to be a bully to its neighbors once more.

I second that motion. It's time to show Russia's new Dictator by Proxy, Ex-KGB Colonel Putin, that the US will use the world's most superior military for preventing Tyranny.

We are able to do so - most of the US Navy and Air Force are availble to do so. The Iranian border is only 180 miles from Geogia's region.

If Russia goes for the Capital, then you'll see the US intervene.

Are you aware that Russia has NUKES ? Again, a US intervention is out of question because it would eventually lead to a nuclear war. Russia is not Afghanistan or Irak it's a major military power from which Europe gets 30% of it's energetic supplies. War with Russia and the west is back to the stone age.

RUSSIAN VIEW ON WAR LOOTERS:

I want to start by talking about the big issue of the day - looters, or as they are called in Russia - marauders. This is truly disgusting, but many things could be cleared up as to who is behind it. There was a fair amount of information regarding war looters in the conflict zone on Russia television and radio today.

Russian military officials and journalists made statements numerous times today that they confirm looting, crime and general lawlessness in the conflict region - both in S. Ossetia and Georgia - by armed marauders.

The Russian military suspects that most of the looters and maradeurs are S. Ossetian and Abkhazian rebels. Take note that these rebels may resemble Russian soldiers as they are issued the same uniform and the same weapons. Looting and crime associated with the lawless state of the conflict zone was reported in both S. Ossetia and Georgian regions where Georgian police and army retreated. Russian news report that this has not so much to do with Russian troops, as with retreated Georgian forces. In fact they state that there is more looting in towns where there are no Russian troops, than in towns with Russian troops present.

A senior Russian army official stated that Russian troops are engaging the looters, and in several listed instances have arrested them and even killed them. He blamed the SO and Abkhazian rebels, who he says cannot be controlled at this point. Some rebels are on their own, have no command structure, and absolutely no discipline. He also stated that Russian Military is openly accepting all claims of Russian military personel taking part in looting - and these soldiers will be severly punished according to the military code of conduct.

Here is one article describing Russian troops fighting against marauders:

Two armed marauders have been shot and killed by Russian troops in a village in South Ossetia. A Russian minister of Special Matters stated a warning that any looters caught be Russian troops or Russian Special Law Enforcement officers would be similarly severly punished. Armed looters could be shot on sight. Russian Special law Enforcement Forces are now throughout South Ossetia disarming all S. Ossetians.

No mention was made on whether the killed marauders were part of S. Ossetian rebel forces.

P.S. if you want to know why I innitially left ATS, it was not really due to arguements here: I have received several personal threats through my personal e-mails, and I was not sure as to their origin. I no longer believe them to have originated from my ATS posts - but elsewhere.

Every time we have less news from the real war, we see the restart of the ridiculous war of words between ATS members, showing that they are no better than those that they accuse of being bullies.

Sad.

Welcome back!!

Thanks for the low-down on looters. Respect is due to the Russians for dealing with this properly.

Change your email address. Quick.

maloy, welcome back.

I posted a page or so ago some concern over the potential involvement of the Ukraine in this situation.

What is the Russian take on the Ukraine's language today concerning the Navy? What is the general sense over there about the Ukraine?
