Volunteer fighters start to return to Russia - Feature

The only sign of Russian retreat on the lone mountain path of Georgia's rebel region of South Ossetia were volunteer fighters from the Russian Caucasus turning in their arms and waiting for buses for the ride back across the border. But others were reported to still be fighting in Georgian villages along the border region on a day of conflicting reports about whether hostilities had been completely ended.

We have ABM silos in a few different countries, even more in Alaska and I havent got the time to search for them now but have you seen the missiles and the radars that are floating in the oceans?
You have no idea how many ABM silos that we have set up, I dont know how many are set up and the Russians sure as hell dont know how many we have set up.

A war with Russia would be the end of the world as we know it. Period. There's no shield device able to protect the US from Russia's nuclear capabilities (multiple warhead launched at the same time from unknown position like submarines). But we are far from this scenario. Everybody knows war isn't an option (Bush included). Russia is going to keep on destroying Georgia's forces for a few days to make sure Saaka won't attack the breakaway regions again and then go back to their previous position in SO.

sorry we differ in opinion
but that is our right as Americans right?

I have no problem with you expressing your opinion

No matter how inaccurate it is you are entitled to believe what you wish

Just like me..

Just a small bit of personal information about me.. I live in close proximity to Vandenberg Air Force Base where quite a few of the tests on the systems and missiles have taken place.

Use that information anyway you want........

(As a matter of fact just the other night they tested a titan
was pretty cool to watch)

(Edit)

7 are located at Ft. Greely Alaska
2 are located at Vandenberg AFB
(official information as of 2006) The real. Numbers are only slightly higher then that. Sorry i can not back this up with verifiable proof.

Just a little FYI also
"While the Reagan era Strategic Defense Initiative was intended to shield against a massive Soviet attack, the current National Missile Defense has the more limited goal of shielding against a limited attack by a rogue state."

The Regan SDI was never implemented while just in the last few years the actual ABILITY to shoot down a MIRV has technicaly become a possibility.

no i dont want nuclear war with russia, but i dont want a black eye either, and if somebody swings at me, i swing back, they need out of georgia, and no one but us has the strength to do it

no one else can do it but us,

"us"

Who is that the avergae Joe who watches Cspan CBS Fox etc, and at home.

I feel if you ask the real "us" those lads in Iraq and Afghanistan at the moment they might actually disagree!

Carefull a whole nation thinking as you do, could become a very quick self fulfilling prophecy, in the current climate!

The "us" you mention, if Russia and the USA have conflict, would soon be drafted and joining the "us" I refer too quickly indeed.

I don't think you will hold the same opinion if 6 weeks later that knock at the door by the local recruiting Sgt,, and maybe the same time later, you may be in some part of Europe/Asia/Middle East border, running to put on your NBC suit as the alarms go off.

At that point in time when you are trying to put that suit on in time, you would for the 3rd time in the last 24 hours loose control of your bladder and or bowels!

This wouldn't worry you much though as the image in your mind, indellably printed for the rest of your life, waking you up in cold sweets EVERY NIGHT, the image of those civilian children you saw explode in a fireball yesterday, and your best friend from training, with his legs missing now screaming in agony, put the suit on or help him.... this is the reality of war.

Wake up.

Real war, like this is scarily leading to, real World War isnt something done by "soldiers" or "over there" it touches all lives, and drags whole generations to the grave.

This is as far from the scenario in Iraq and Afghanistan you could get! its like being confident you beat up the karate kid "actor", and then wanting to jump in the ring with Tyson, biting head butting and all!

Kind Regards,

Elf

Well, the poster did had a point. That lady wasn't allowed to continue her story. I think that when you invite someone to tell you their story, that you should let them finish telling it.
If you feel you have objections, you can tell them after they have finished speaking rather than using an excuse like: we're going to a commercial break or we're out of airtime.

Truthfully, what do you expect an Ossetian to say, after all that's been done? The material fact in this interview was that the 12-year old was in cafe and there was Gerogian artillery, after which point there is no relevant info.

PS. Yes, the FOX anchor was quite rude.

I agree, children are dishonest and emotionless, especially in war. That kid that got his arms blown off during Operation: Iraqi Freedom was just crying for the cameras. Silly boy.

Hold the mustard, plucky.

I just stated that there was regrettably little info in that interview, which you may disagree with. As to the political views of Ossetians, that was personally pretty clear to me years ago.

I have to agree..... It was obvious that both the 12 year old and the mother we biased and wanted to slam georgia any way they could. Not to mention the fact the 12 year old exhibited all the classic signs of lieing. (Look at her eyes and body language)

And yea.. Fox news sucks.. they are idiots. What you expect they cater to that kind of audience .

A New Precedent Set

In the wake of the compelling events in the South Ossetian War, advocates of both sides of the conflict have been eager to label each other with accusations largely based on well-worn truisms. Such a heated display of political convictions requires a revised observation of the Caucasus question, by taking into account the circumstances in the Caucasus' recent historical past. What emerges is the understanding that the August conflict has created a new standard in post-Soviet hostilities, where old saws have lost their value.

If the report is accurate, I really don't understand what they're playing at. They've made their point, everyone knows the Bear is fully out of hibernation now, but to keep pushing and pushing at the West is only going to end in tears for someone - most likely the innocent. Let's hope someone has jumped the gun somewhere, or get their bearings wrong.

Saakashvili's press conference on Sky just now:

- 'Russia is ethnic cleansing; I can prove it'

- 'The world must help us'

- 'Russian tanks are advancing into Georgia'

- 'Russia wants to bring Georgia to its knees'

That's a general summary.

How do I reply to someone who claims Russia is at fault for this conflict? They are saying Russia had been planning this attack for months and that the Georgians are free from fault.

I haven't been keeping up with this, but I am sure Russia isn't totally to blame.

They're probably going to say that they're doing a recon mission...
I have no idea what they're doing or where they're heading at this stage.
