It would help explain why we are seeing the Russian forces hanging around the Georgian forces, and why the information is seeming to be so muddled at this point.

How possible is it that the military is agreeing to work with Russia to stage a coup? Also is it possible that Russians had previously infiltrated the military in certain areas so that this could be done? Wouldn't be a totally bad move on Russia's part if they can actually cause the Georgian forces to have their insurrection.

Not saying its a good or bad thing, its just an interesting move if they are able to depose Saakashvili by use of his own forces.

No SKY/BBC and especialy FOX isnt very good sources, thats why you have to analyze both sides informations they give and find a real facts.
And please dont blame wester world that they are a litle bit sceptic of RF actions, because Russia doesnt provide very good image in past 60 Years.
And ask self an question-did you really care about Osetians in past 15 years or only past 5 days?
I dont have ilusions about good America, but I certainly wount trust Russia.

No news sources are taking these disagreements under consideration yet. I think we will see something happen about it today. Has Saaka really lost the support of Georgian military?

How can you constantly complain about "biased western media", than start throwing around stuff like this? Take some of your own advice!

Seems the Russians are using this guy to do all their public relations work!

Will we ever get a straight answer to what is actually happening on the ground?

I sincerely hope he hasn't.

Because the alternative to a Georgian military supporting him is an American military. I have no doubts if the Georgian military turns against him American will use their troops to 'restore peace and prevent a military coup'.

This thread is going to pieces, and I am out of here.

Seems that America can't think for itself.

Have fun fighting in Iran.

For God's sake, maloy, you're better than this so don't play the martyr and take this thread way off the road with immature shots that have nothing to do with anything.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A U.S. official says that Russia apparently is sabotaging airfields and other military infrastructure in Georgia as its forces pull back.

The official described eyewitnesses accounts for The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. This official said the Russian strategy seems like a deliberate attempt to cripple the already battered Georgian military.

The official also tells of reports from the scene indicating that retreating Russian forces are doing what they can to disable Georgia's ability to fight a future conflict.

I hope you'll reconsider. You're one of the only posters here who can translate other news, and I for one appreciate hearing the other side of the story even if I don't agree with everything you say (I don't agree with everything the western side says either!)

This is why I wish everyone could just be a bit more tolerant of one another in these threads. We need a strong diversity of people with differing views in order to stay well informed. We need as complete a picture as possible in order to make our own judgments.

I think everyone should stay in the thread, and stick to posting news as it happens, with the occasional hypothesis politely thrown in for good measure.

maloy,

I have enjoyed your posts in this thread. Very informative. I just think with all that is going on we are all looking for some accuracy. I remember the invasion of Baghdad and the disinformation that was coming forth.

You have been a very credible source and I hope that you will continue to post.

I am out of this thread. It has turned to mush from the point when everyone is collectively dismissing anything I post from the Russian sources.

Everyone? Really? I certainly haven't and MOST others haven't either from what I can see; we're just careful with the news, that's all. The Russians have been reported as exagerating cliams of ethnic cleansing, saying they would NOT move into Georgia-proper, and they even signed an agreement that would put everyone back where they were before this started last week and now their officials are saying otherwise by wishing to keep troops in S. Ossetia and Abkhazia at least.

PEOPLE COME ON!!!

This was bound to happen...

One news source says this, the other one says that and they both disagree on what color the sky was yesterday...

If we, as ATS members, continue to present what is being said and what is happening from BOTH perspectives, and accept that either one or both may be subject to interpretation, then WE have risen up above all the Main Stream Media and done what ATS does best...

DENY IGNORANCE

Come on people, you can't blame maloy for citing Russian newssources.
All he's done is providing news from the other side of the conflict, he never said that those reports were true or not.
And even if these reports turned out to be false, there's no reason to hassle maloy over it, as he didn't fabricate those reports

In this conflict there is a widespread of disinfo, which is being played out by all sides.

But only a couple of people have gone after maloy, with the rest of us keeping an open mind to reports from Georgia/Russia/UK/US and everywhere in between. I really hope I didn't sound like I was attacking him because this thread would have been worthless without him, but everyone involved here needs to keep doing what we have been doing - asking question of every report, not poster, that comes in, and if a pattern emerges like we have here with Russia and Western media getting all kinds of things wrong, we can get closer to the middle which is where the truth lies.

An interesting side story to all of this - Ukraine's insurance costs are rising as a result of heightened tensions with Russia due to the conflict in Georgia.

LONDON, August 14 (Reuters) - The cost of insuring Ukrainian government debt in the credit default swaps market sharply increased on Thursday, with investors increasingly worried about worsening relations with Russia.

Ukrainian credit default swaps widened roughly 20 basis points to 437 on Thursday, compared to 401 last Friday.

Investors are concerned both over ongoing domestic political worries and worsening relations with Russia over its conflict with Georgia.

Maloy,

don't lose your cool over some anti-Russian poster from the Baltics. Did you really expect an informed an objective opinion from him/her? Read Matthew 7:6 and stop casting pearls. Peace.

I agree, we have to keep an open mind as to what is reported and don't take anything for granted. Especialy not onesided report from government officials.

Sofar we've done a great deal to verify news with other sources, that also included Russian news.
