Mm.

This is absolutely laughable. A Russian FM spokesman was just talking to Sky News a moment ago. He maintains (hilariously) that there are no Russian forces in Gori; cut to Alex Rossi (Sky's main man in Gori) standing on a roadside as Russian military vehicles drive to and from Gori and Tbilisi. Brilliant.

He said it looks like the Russians are doing some kind of reconnaissance work around the capital. Naturally.

I swear, they're better off hiring some of us to sort out the information. I don't know what those guys and girls are doing in Tbilisi, but they're capable of declaring a war when their president farts.... I hope he stays well away from eating chillibeans

Violence continued in Gori, Georgia, Thursday, as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov scoffed at the idea of talking about Georgia's "territorial integrity." Here, Russian tanks drive past a burning car near a Goergian army base in Gori on Wednesday.

A shipping agent in Poti reiterates that Russian tanks entered Poti, but only the coast guard area/military port. He expresses fear that the area may have been mined (perhaps this is where the claims that mining is being performed originated in part?)

"Yesterday they came to the commercial port, but today they only came to the military port, to the coast guard area," Tavberidze said by telephone. "They took away some equipment."

"This is looting," he added. "People are afraid to go in there. It might be mined."

www.alertnet.org...

Again, I have now given up trying to ascertain what's really happening. Perhaps that is the intent of one or both sides. We need more transparency and better reporting.

If they mined Poti, wouldn't that cause a severe reaction from the US. Seeing that they want to deliver humanitarian aid through that port.

Looks to me that Russia is playing hardball.

Yes but the problem is that one person saying "it might be mined" could - for all we know, since there is virtually no reporting on the ground it seems like - be the entire basis for the interior ministry saying Russia is mining towns.

We know so little, yet so much is being made of it all. Someone else already said it before, but I feel they were spot on when they said it: "Talk about fog of war!"

I feel blind.

my question is what right do the russians have to clear or get rid of the weapon systems that georgia bought from us, it is so crap, if we went somewhere and did this, it would be hell, we gave weapons in iraq to the new iraqi police and army, and only destroyed what was old and dangerous.

what right do they have to do this, the right to die in my opinion.

I think they would look on it as would the US army in Iraq seeing weapons left for the so called 'insurgents' by the Iranians . Just my guess.

That is what I am saying too! I think we can all agree that is the most credible claim with some truth, but why isn't that a big deal? I guess the Georgians doesn't care, since we'll likely give back whatever they need.

True, Ace - but there is some:

We now know that they're lying. Why? I don't know. I've got a good idea, though.

Good God - did ANYONE watch Sky News just now?!

They were showing footage of Russian soldiers shooting at random TV cameramen and journalists.

Reconnaisance?
Why does that give me a horrible feeling.

Knowing each side is being less than genuine when it comes to their claims isn't exactly a revelation, though, and still doesn't confirm or deny anything either side is saying. That's what's so frustrating. We have a good idea of what we think is happening - we just can't prove it with 100% certainty. And I don't think that's by accident (on either side.)

This is interesting.
Is there media manipulation going on?
Anti-Russian propaganda?

Does this war have anything to do with oil?

Yeah, Jack, if you'd have seen the pictures it was all kicking off. The soldier was pointing his gun directly at them and shooting. It was at one of the various Russian checkpoints, apparently.

Well, Russia claims it has no forces on Georgian soil at all...

You just cant get the picture at this point.

You notice how they mention the total estimate of refugees displaced and homeless , injured .. in Georgia as a whole .. then they are in a hospital showing people that they claim are injured by the Russians , not bothering to mention the majority of those they mention are up in North Ossetia having been put there by the Georgians . They are misleading people, if anyone didn't know better they would take this whole total of casualties and refugees and blame it on the Russians. The western media is a disgrace , these journalists a shame to their profession .
