Well, if the news reports are correct then it looks like Russia blinked.
Knowing that the US Secretary of State would be in the Georgian Capital
was enough "encouragement" not to try and push on through

So much for the Russian (Teddy) Bear

Even so, Im still really curious as to what is so important in Georgia that the world would risk all out war for.

Chinas been damn quiet about all this to, interesting.

Poles are hating on Russia for historical reasons , can't go by their opinion for balanced reasonable input into this equation, they'd take us to ww3 to satisfy their bitterness .

Pipelines .

That teddy bear might have saved you from a slow lingering radioactive poisoned death.

It's just a bug. The other pages beyond the current are empty (you'll notice this if you click it).

Sometimes it re-adjusts correctly after certain posts and then does the 'ghost' pages again (the links appear but are empty).

Pipelines . Line 2

Ahh, I see. The oil pipeline that runs through there.. Sorry, I know I could look it up but it may be quicker if I just ask here..
Where does that pipeline originate and where does it end?

TIA

They go from Baku, Azerbaijan on the caspian sea . Winds its way down into turkey via Georgia , not sure what happens then, but then fed to europe. The one they are talking about that is , southern line.

Other reason being it is a neighbor to Russia, US would like it a militarized NATO zone with missile defence systems and bases, you know .. usual routine.

This is't really about Georgia, there is much more at stake here than that.

In one sense it is about our principles. In another it is politics. Its what some people call the Great Game.

What do you mean by that? If by chance I did die that way then it would most likely be due to a missile from the teddy bear.

And, all that I was really saying is that it seemed to be a good move by the Bush admin, sending the military but with humanitarian aid and also sending one of our top officials to the capital.
Russia would not dare fire a single round into the capital knowing Rice was there, just like we didnt take out Osama when he was hunting with a Saudi or UAE, (cant remember which) Prince back in the late 90's.
I guess Bush thought she would make a good human shield.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Right now, those Russian troops might be the only ones who are able to protect the civilians in Gori who haven't already fled the city. Protect them from hordes of raiding criminals. I bet there are many South Ossetians who wants revenge after what Georgia did in Tskhinvali...

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Gen. Borisov stated last night that Russia would return the authority to the Georgian police today.
So I took it like that there already was somesort a police presence in Gori.

Russian forces not leaving Gori--Georgian official

Russian forces have "changed their mind" about leaving the flashpoint Georgian town of Gori and are not withdrawing, a Georgian interior ministry spokesman told Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Thursday.
