i am sorry for starting the chest thumping
I am worried about
what we are going to do

what do we do...

our president has basically said what he has said
"get out"

hopefully we will see the russians fold up and turn tail
if for any reason but to avoid another world war
as the world turns
I wouldnt want to be catching the heat they are right now
not from us or the rest of the world

The bomb sizes are meaningless

99% of our missiles on either side aren't shielded against em attacks or microwave...

I have said this before...

There is a reason they are wiling on both sides to risk MAD

MAD no longer exists for either side

The final straw is the US missile shield, while only capable of taking out small numbers of Missiles... their are only small numbers of Russian shielded missiles... it was not as the USA claims just for Iran

Use your heads, we would never fight if MAD was in place niether would the Russians.

These missiles have highly sensitive electronic timers and we have bveen putting up antennas like Haarp and other systems for a very long time now, so have the Russians...

The day of the ICBM is over.

Russia may well be deadly serious here because that missile shield would render them impotent on a Nuclear Level

Our Airforce trumps theirs basically, Nato has them surrounded and Bush was putting in the last...not the first line of defense against Russian Nukes

Putin... has not been left with much choice honestly

There is a question as to where Russia is heading, and this raises questions and implications for the rest of the world.

Last speaker finished with this.

I'll follow that line with this (which I recently posted in another thread):

What is interesting is that Bush says that Russia's aim may be to depose the Georgian government. Given the intelligence assets at the President's disposal, this type of official acknowledgement is more weighty than our layman's hunches that this was the case. And this interpretation of events actually relates to a worst case scenario, particularly bearing in mind that Mr Cheyney has already stated that the Russian advances must not go unanswered.

The video of the speech can be viewed here:

The Russian UN diplomat has just stated in very clear terms that Russia & Georgia are to remain separate countries. Whether he is stating the truth remains to be seen.

i heard on the radio that the georgian government now has it's government information website in Atlanta. Story was a woman from Atlanta, was leaving Georgia the country to come back to Atlanta when war broke out and she was going to set up their Government website here in Atlanta. Anyone have any other info on this?

I read the same thing in an article posted on the Drudge Report. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the link anywhere. However, here is an article concerning Russian Denial of Service attacks on Georgian websites: website

I hope this helps.

That was good, up-to-date info. But can you see the Russians admitting that is their intention?

From the Russian diplomat, who has just concluded, we are supposed to believe that this is all a Peace action to prevent the Georgians from killing the S.O's en masse. Somehow i doubt this.

It would not serve Russia to "absorb" Georgia. All that is needed to serve their aims is to install a puppet government (much like the one that is currently in place now). This time, the puppet government will answer to Russia, not the US.

Russia is hoping for the overthrow of the Georgian government by "it's own people." In other words, they have a government already in-waiting.

Russia would be foolish to allow Georgia to remain free.

Putin will not stop until Ukraine is back also.

It is simply as he paitently and repeatedly told us for the last 2 years prior to this... the missile defense shield and Nato members on Russian borders are simply more than Russia can allow...

How is anyone missing the simplicity of this and the fact that Putin has... repeatedly had normal rational dealings with us about this until now...

Far from hot headed, he has until now remained incredibly calm about this situation.

This is why China will end up the worlds super power imho... they unlike Hitler, Russia or the USA plot their moves over time... everybody else is leaders, rushing for glory, The US could have been... more paitent and simply taken the mideast...but we had to encircle Russia in the process... same mistake Hitler made... questing for glory not true victory for which a Nation must have paitence.

This isn't about dead peace keepers it is about Russias back against the wall...

Bush believed he could bluff putin and pretend like this missile defense system was our only Missile line of defense... while we put in place the real defense system, Putin knows what position his country is in and is moving to assure soverignty while he still can.

Spot on. This has been the Russian government's spin from the outset. We are supposed to believe that Russia is doing all this to help out the inhabitants of part of Georgia who want independence, and need protecting from their own government!

The main deception is that Russia is portraying South Ossetia as an area in which Georgia has no right to keep troops. What they want you to forget is that it is part of Georgia, notwithstanding the fact that many who live there have (very conveniently) been handed Russian passports in recent times by the Russian authorities, who now come to rescue 'their own citizens'...

and I don't mean to sound like i'm posting conjecture in this thread... it's not conjecture...

I am sure I do not need to post 50 links to the number of times Putin as paitently expressed his concerns about our missile defense systems in Europe or Nato countries on Russian borders...

This alone is purely fact

as far as the higher levels of Missile defense I say are in place... that would be technically conjecture... but we can all do math... it has been 22 years since the inception of starwars... we switched from the types of traditional defense systems we initially started on in favor of "something else" 20 years ago...

Does anyone think we failed with a 300 Billion dollar a year Black budget?

Putins no dummy

From Drudge

Georgia overrun by Russian troops as full-scale ground invasion begins.

www.dailymail.co.uk

Georgian officials tonight claimed the country had been 'overrun' by Russian troops after a full-scale ground invasion.

Amid reports that Moscow forces had taken the town of Gori - and were marching on the capital Tsblisi - Georgian soldiers appeared to be in full retreat.

Troops were apparently in complete chaos as a full-scale rout pushed them back through the countryside.

Meanwhile, the civilian crisis intensified with thousands of refugees fleeing the seemingly unstoppable advance of the Russian army.

Confirm? Anyone seen this elsewhere?

I've seen it on TV news - both military and civilians making a huge exodus from other cities to try to defend the capital.

Georgia has appealed for international intervention and has pulled its battered forces back to defend the capital, as Russian troops move further into its territory, ignoring Western pleas to halt military occupation.

"The Georgian army is retreating to defend the capital. The Government is urgently seeking international intervention to prevent the fall of Georgia," a Georgian statement said.

McCain, Obama say Russia faces fallout over Georgia

McCain, a Republican senator from Arizona who has made international issues the centerpiece of his campaign for the Nov. 4 election, offered a lengthy discourse on the crisis in the Caucasus for reporters and cameras.
Obama later made a brief appearance in Hawaii, where he is on a family holiday, to caution Russia that its future ties were at stake.

An opportunity for the candidates to grab some geopolitical brownie points.
