I seriously doubt you are going to see them bomb that airport. The4y know just how far to push it and they wont go that far. This thing will be winding down soon-i promise.

STAY ON TOPIC people.

This is NOT a thread to beat your chest about how big and bad your military hardware is. We have a special forum for that.

More from the U.S. ambassador live on CNN

(Paraphrasing and typing as he talks)

There is a range of tools...

the immediate focus in the future is on bringing about a cessation of hostilities...

there is of course a variety of other measures, from political, to economic to, uh, uh, "other" measures.

But don't get the wrong idea. We do not want a confrontation with Russia.

...we were not consulted by Georgia before the conflict.

Up till now this thread has been very informative. The Russia bashing session, however, is immature. It could be countered with facts such as the way the Russian economy is actually on a better footing than the US' - the US can't afford another war, not to mention how overstretched they already are. Russian aircraft are not behind the times either - but this is a whole separate discussion...

Could things please be kept on topic on such a crucial series of events?

Send in the marines, see how long those Russian whimps last... Go all out....

Then invite the Chinese to join us.... The end of Russia as we know it... 1 billion chinese with guns heading north....

That is in the end, our actual ace in the hole... but, none the less despite what i am certain both Russia and the US have in terms of the ability to stop ICBMs...

Some cities on both sides will be blown, niether side can stop all the nukes

some subs will get through, some shielded...

the consequences even with China on our side... would be globally devestating perhaps a billion or more dead

This is nothing that can be allowed to happen

LOL-no they arent. In fact the soviet union tested the most powerful nuke ever. Dont kid yourself when it comes to their nukes-they ahve everythying that we do. Yeah maybe their other equipment isnt up to snuff, but then again that doesnt matter when Russia has enough nukes to destroy the world 10 times over right by themselves.

If the US is a smoking crater, so will the Soviet Union be.... Our bombs are 1000's of times more powerful and more accurate.... George Bushes missle defense system sure looks like a good thing now right?

There is a question as to where Russia is heading, and this raises questions and implications for the rest of the world.

Then why has Georgia ASKED for a cease fire? In my eyes requesting a cease fire is a declaration of surrender.

"It now appears that an effort may be under way to depose (Georgia's) duly elected government," Bush said in a statement at the White House on Monday.

"I just met with my national security team to discuss the situation in Georgia. I am deeply concerned by reports that Russian troops have moved beyond the zone of conflict, attacked the Georgian town of Gori, and are threatening the Georgian capital Tbilisi," the statement read.
