You know i see this in so many threads. People who say the "I haven't read te thread but". They then give their opinion without having read the 4 pages already given in which their question has already been answered. In the past i've been guilty of this but i've stopped doing it out of respect.

If you simply skip ahead you miss alot and it shows an utter disrespect to ATS and it's members. By doing this you s how you don't really care what ot hers believe, you don't want to be informed you just want to give your opinion. It's about time this stopped. I now completely disregard anyone saying this as i find they just don't care about the opinions of others. T hey dont' want to confront the truth or the discussion.

If there is a thread, 18 pages long then you should view all 18 pages before commenting, that's my view. Anything else is disrespectful to the other posters.

I agree...mostly. If a thread is a couple of pages long, one should read all of it before posting anything.

You should definitely read a thread before you post anything slightly negative or disagreeing with the OP.

But if the thread is a ATS Big-Thread, then just skim the first page IMO and then the last couple of pages. I think that's fair.

I only read the first paragraph of your post, but I agree. When threads are really long and you want to contribute, you must either read for days, or just comment. This must be disrespectful to other posters. In addition, I think people who do not use the search function to see if a thread has already been established is irresponsible and a waste of people's time...these inconsiderate people should be horse-whipped and nothing less.

The only problem I have with that is when those 18 pages come to be 2 pages of opinion and 16 pages of "he said", "she said" back and forth between two people who are not even squarely on topic. I'm not talking about serious debate here; I'm talking about childish squabbling.

The mods do take care of the worst of it, and in their defense I really wouldn't want them to do more than they do. I think they have it about right. But that doesn't mean I want to spend a couple of hours reading tripe. So sometimes I do skip through, especially when I encounter such.

While I understand your position and also tend to agree, I also think that there is a limit on how much an individual should have to read through in order to comment. My suggestion is to read the first few pages, then the last few at least. That should give some good indication of where the subject is going. That's what I am trying to do.

That's my $0.02 anyway, thanks to inflation now worth a whopping $0.0045.

some threads its simply not possible. that one thread "higher light answers to questions" is 386 pages long! i agree though that people should try to read it when able though.

I haven't read this thread, but I'd just like to say that taffy is delicious and that there are a lot of decaf coffees on the market that are just as good as the regular stuff.

Wait, what was this thread about???

IMHO it is important to respond to the OP's idea. That doesn't call for reading every post even though I feel like I'm cheating the OP if I don't.

Most often if I don't read the whole thread, I'll not respond simply because I'm fearful someone will say, "Didn't you read the post? That was discussed on page 43, third post from the top."
