I live in south Texas, where hurricane dolly just recently hit. Well, the night before the hurricane hit as the wind and rain was coming in. There was lots of flashing the seemed to becoming from above the clouds. Never any thunder, and no lightning bolts. Not even cloud to cloud lightning. The flashes were green in color and were mostly coming from the east. A friend of mine that lives about 15 miles west of me saw it before i did from his 2nd floor apartment patio. Not saying it was something, but it didn't look like nothing.

I live in Alabama about two hours from Atlanta. It was thundering and lightening here quite a lot here about 6 p.m. with no rain. There were numerous watches and warnings that stretched into Georgia. I sure it was just heat lightening

50 miles away from the atlanta airport is not 3 hours, assuming you meant by car, as you stated earlier. which is it?

and yeah. my guess would be heat lightning anywhere in or around the atlanta area, especially the last week since it's been hot as hades here.

Man it might just be lightning. We have had storms, some pretty bad ones today. I believe that the whole of North Georgia was in the path of the storms. A funny thing happened to me during the storm today. Maybe I shouldn't say to me, but all these ice cubes fell from the sky. Gee I wonder what could have that been? Oh and the trees started dancing too. Couldn't have been the wind, could it?

Hi, first time poster, relatively long'ish time reader here and I simply had to post something on this subject. I am also currently living in Ga, i've got a great view of the sky from my spot in the city and although I can't say I've seen any anomolous flashes, I have been perched on my windowsills for hours watching what I can only describe as the biggest most Orwellian looking night time Ga Military Base chopper/plane deployment (training excercise?) ever. I've been here for years and even when we started up with Iraq there wasn't this much fuss in the sky.
Well we have been getting lots of strange trails and I've spotted cloud seeders and plenty of tell tale non-contrails, all during the day of course, but tonight was a new level. It kicked off with no less than two choppers flying over the city grid spotlighting the # out of everything including at one brief point my own window. A third joined in and the scene was just strange, watching a flat city grid get lit up by 3 lights on three choppers as they moved across the earth in methodical lawn mower fashion. I'm aware that the Militarys gotta practice, but this was bizarre and wholly different from anything I've seen in the 6 or 7 years I've been down here. That includes pre as well as post first deployments to the Iraq and Afganistan conflicts.

Of course amid all the chopper strangeness there were random plane lights blipping all over the sky ranging from close to the ground to way the # out there. Then two large military bomber or cargo type planes flew right over my section of the city and headed out towards the river/downtown. And the choppers are STILL blasting streets and windows with their lights. It all finally slowed down around 1 am, however I can still hear the faint sound of choppers now and again, but they are much less intrusive now, and the planes continue to cruise, as though on a looped path.

Basically # is wierd as # in more than one place in Ga is what I wanted to say. Strange night, what really got me curious was the grid hugging choppers beaming everyone. I've seen them individually from time to time at night doing their spotlight thing for whatever various and possibly nefarious reasons. But I don't think I've ever seen them use their spotlight on citizens with glaring Heli-Cop lights ''flashing''(not the kind you described).

It was basically surreal, and I question what motives these pilots and their superiors have, for running unnanounced late night harrasment from the sky. Because for some time, the view outside of my window this evening looked to be a textbook example of a sci-fi dystopian society, or the birthing pains that precede one. Of course I might not be too far off.....

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but in my opinion, what you experienced was an acoustic shadow. These were discovered during the U.S. Civil War -- sometimes people could see the blasts of light from shells off in the distance, but not hear anything, when 100 yards farther away the battle could be heard quite well. Basically, sound waves are a lot easy to bend and distort than light, and so the topography of the land can have a big effect on where the sounds can be heard. So obviously something was going on near you (maybe lightning, maybe fireworks or transformers popping or something else), and you were in a spot where you just couldn't hear the bursts.

Just wanted to say I heard the choppers flying as well last night or I should say this morning at about 3AM. It did seem odd. Helicopters are flown out of Mccollum Airport in Kennesaw as well as what flies out of Dobbins ARB. Military birds rarely have spotlights on them. COuld have been the authorites were searching for someone.

Just wanted to say... around 3 a.m. that night, here in north Florida (Big Bend area)... my brother saw an extremely bright light shoot past a small window in his room. This is in the country with no possibility of it being anything on the ground and had to be bright enough to shine through the tree outside that window. He said he thought of getting up and going outside to see wtf but decided not to. He figured it must have been one helluva meteor. My brother said it was not just a flash but it was moving the speed of a falling star.

So.... that makes this something like the 5'th or 6'th person to post of this incident in this thread? This is located 240 miles south of the OP and a 5 1/2 hours drive away. It seems that we could draw a line on the map linking the posters together and actually have a path.... first sighted around North Florida and ending around Rome, Georgia. Wild! And this is only those that are at this website who actually read this thread and then actually reply.

Glad you posted this! Starred and flagged! Thank You!

And a correction to the post that stated the Leonids Meteor shower is now... it is not... the Leonids peak on November 17'th. Currently, and especially on August 12'th are the Perseids.

snibbling is not a word. and the reason i asked was twofold. one it was inconsistent. and two it matters.

as i live in georgia, metro atlanta, this concerns me. but i still don't see why this couldn't have been lightning. we've been having storms just about every evening this past, very hot and very humid week. i see lightning flashes all the time when there doesn't appear to be a cloud in the night sky.

as to the military air activity, i'll agree it's way up.

and along those lines, the final thing i'll mention is that last night at about 9 p.m., i witnessed what appeared to be TWO very bright lights in the sky, which most at a glance might dismiss as airplanes.

the thing is, they were weirdly bright (somewhere between a typical star and the moon), not flashing (which based on their size, which would typically indicate close proximity to me, i would have noticed), were silent (which again based on implied proximity would not have been the case had they been planes), and moving slowly and perfectly in tandem about 50 to 100 of their own body widths apart. and no, i wasn't seeing double, as i saw only one moon and one treeline.

ok, you got me on the "snibbling" sounded good anyway. but, in case i might be onto something check it out: forums.spacecrime.net...

Its called snibbling when I do it but if someone else would snibble me its not snibbling i guess. hahahahaha

on a more serious note. i used to live in the no ga mtn. i experienced strange lights which appeared to be launched, a slow accent just above tree lines, making a diagonal path over the tree tops and appearing to be just stars much brighter and appeared to be closer to earth. you can check it out in a thread called rabbit holes - searching for alice www.abovetopsecret.com...

also, around 6/22 (see post above) there was a freaky flash in ellijay (north) and the next day there was an earthquake and on 6/24 another nuke incident just not almost a direct line to oakridge, tn.

This is interesting.

I like in Bury, Manchester during the week in a small suburb called Tottington. I have been seeing moving stars and large flashes in the sky on several occassions over the past 4 weeks.

The last flash was enormous as you describe and I was quite taken back, approx 1am GMT.

I would also like to mention I recently witnessed a plane coming in to land at Manchester airport quite low in the sky, when I looked up I saw a shooting star / orb shoot past the plane on its left side.

No sooner had I said to myself 'crikey that shooting star was low' had another one shot past the opposite side of the plane heading in the opposite direction.

UFO? 2 meterors same place, same time different directions?
