In the course of an archaeological assessment prior to the widening of Route 3, east of Culpeper, re-searchers discovered a significant find.
A large cache of jasper shards was unearthed at the location and further exploration led to the discovery of a jasper mine, 12-feet below ground
level, that was in use by Native Americans about 11,000 years ago.
Thats a neat find, it opens the possibility of tracking trade and travel in those times because archeologists could possibly trace other finds
elsewhere back to this source.
wow, very interesting. the more you look , the more you find that the native americans were pretty advanced....of course that was before the white man
came and killed everybody and formed this great democracy.......oh, sorry..thats for another post.....
