I was reading the local paper at work today and it had an article that said the australian and U.S governments were negotiating new laws that would have you sent to jail for owning copied or pirated music.
Fair enough thats pretty extreme but it also said the laws would allow authorities to search your laptop and ipod at will.
I see a huge problem with this as only 2 years ago the police here in NSW gained the power to search your car for no reason at all and since then there powers have grown on and on under the pretence that it will help in the protection from terrorists.
Does anyone else see this as a huge step towards control over how we can live our lives and our privacy to do what we will. I know it may be a little Hardcore but how long will it be until the government are able to influence the places you go and the people you associate with?
this is the link to the papers website i dont think they have a proper set up but im sure this isnt the first people in here would have heard of this subject

this is getting out of hand. i can understand car searching, hell i even understand the occasional house search but laptops and ipods? would they like to search my Anus for WMDs next? this obviously isn't about music. when are people gonna open their eyes and see where all this is going. if they aren't stopped here we will all be walking around with chips in our brain and leashes on our necks.
