This is the best and most odd illusion I've come across. It really does take some working out, but be patient!

At first, it will most probably appear the girl is spinning clockwise, but try and imagine her spinning anti-clockwise and see what happens!

I had real trouble at first, but if you begin to look at her shadow and imagine the shadow made by her stuck-out leg is moving from left to right, your mind should change her direction. Follow the shadow with your eyes and kind of rotate your head anti-clockwise in time with the shadow and it should work!

If you can't do it, ask and I'll try and explain a little better!

Have any of you come across any really cool illusions?

Are you sure it's not actually changing directions? LOL

Very cool illusion
It's working for me..Seems like it shifts if I look down at her shadow, just as her toe is pointing left.

I can see her spinning counter clockwise, but not clockwise. Hmmm.

Hey, man! Haven't seen you in a while!

lol! I was actually beginning to believe it was just automatically changing directions. I even put it into Imageready to make sure it wasn't!

haha. Keep trying. Although, it is quite surprising you see her spinning anti-clockwise easier than clockwise.

It makes you wonder if what we see in reality is actually real and not just an illusion...

hawaiigurl, I had the same thing happen. I thought maybe the OP had made a mistake, but I guess not. No matter how hard I try I can't see her spinning clockwise at all.

Ok. I have been watching this off and on for awhile.

I think her legs are shifting. Watch her legs and which one is kept straight. It will shift from her left leg straight, and then her right leg will be straight. So I'm not sure what to think, whether or not it is really an illusion.

Thats pretty cool Batman I noticed her turning counter clockwise first!

...and if you blink really fast it just looks like she it switching left and right without rotating!

I have some illusions on my comp somewhere lemme look for them!

It definatly works, I have seen this before.

It's a 2D animation but your mind makes it 3D.

I found if I really concentrate I can make her leg spin one way then at the halfway point change the direction back and forth so she doesn't spin one way.

Try it, it might take some time.
Without sounding pervy, forget the upper half and look from the waist down only.

I don't think it is meant to, only our minds make it appear that way.

It's really starting to freak me out. I don't understand how our mind can make it appear she is spinning different ways, yet she is'nt! The worst part is, no matter which way she spins, you don't even know if that is the correct way she is spinning! It's mind blagging.

I looked at it for a few minutes and at first all I saw was the clockwise rotation. After letting my eyes lose focus just a little and blinking I managed to get her rotating counter clockwise. Interesting illusion there.

Yeah, we haven't crossed paths in a while around here, how strange!

I've taken a look at this again this evening. Really a great illusion.
Though, I'm still not 100% convinced the there's not a change happening in the image. I think thats just my eyes arguing with my brain.

Here is an illusion that you can build from a piece of paper. It's really easy to make. I made a few for people at work, and just put one their desks one morning.

The Dragon Illusion:

And here are instructions to build your own.

Wow, that dragon is awesome. I might have a go at making one. I freaked out abit when I saw what shape the head really was and didn't expect it to look like that at all!

Its really cool whatever happens. But why is it that when she turns one way her head is tilting to the left and when she goes the other way it tilts in the other direction???

I understand the legs and I can see it going in both directions, just the head makes no sense at all.

this was really annoying me (in a nice way) cos i couldn't figure out what was happening. Then i discovered that if you scroll down so all you can see are the lower portions of the legs....then it is easier and clearer to see the switch.

Clockwise and only clockwise.

Your visual mind only perceives what you want it to. Some people are more perceptive that others. Some can easily convince themselves of one thing when it is truly false. An example would be drug induced hallucination's.

One post mentioned the leg slightly bending during rotation. That is the end of the animation and it flickers there.

When it was loading up, it actually was lagging slowly for me in a clockwise rotation. Then i refreshed it and concentrated and it changed direction, but most of the time i see it in a clockwise rotation. Thanks for posting this, i love optical illusions. I collect them every time i see a new one. cool.
