Everyone as a kid had imaginary friends, I had an imaginary mom who I was convinced my real mother wasn't her but was an alien, I long ago grew out of this thought, but with the talk of alien debate going on constantly on the news( as I'm a news buff) is this the imaginary friend of our societies childhood? I want to believe in it, but itd be nice to find hard evidence of it..is there any out there.

First off you'd have to be truly looking for understanding. You're not. I can tell because of your blanket statements such as "Everyone as a kid has imaginary friends". That's not true. Actually only a percentage of children have "imaginary friends".

However you're right in some ways about the "imaginary friends" being real beings beyond the scope and understanding of most adults. There is alot of evidence out there to suport this fact.

I think you've been watching too much Star Trek or playing too many space invader video games. If you really think a spaceship is going to land on the White House lawn, then you are thinking of this from the wrong angle.

Actually i've never watched star trek, and the only video game i played was the tony hawk ones. Which I never was interested in video games throughout most my life. I excelled in school in math and physics, my favorite author was Isaac Asimov, basically i was a nerd. Ha ha, I hid my obsession of math and science from friends. You know how school kids were... But I do watch the news alot, and that why if we had some proof of intelligent life not from earth. The things we could learn would be tremendous to everyone. I suppose that the fiction idea of aliens has lead to search of technology thought up from the ufo structures. But altogether just saying if they were real, wouldn't we know it?

The truth of the matter is that there is zero evidence of ufo's being aliens. Again ZERO EVIDENCE. Anyone that says there is is either a fool or a liar. There is a very good reason that no one has come forward with incontrovertible evidence to prove the existence of alien life, and that is because there isnt any. Period.

I think those kids that have imaginary friends are probably actually seeing someone.
Children are much more receptive to tuning in to other dimensions so I would'nt rule it out.
I personally never had an imaginary friend but the daughter of a friend of mine sees a red indian girl.
I don't put it down to alien, but more to paranormal.
Having said that I strongly believe in alien life.

I agree with this. I never saw/had an imaginary friend as a child. Although, 2/3 of my children see/have an imaginary friend. With my research it seems to point that the imagery friend is the child's "spirit guide".

Welcome to ATS.

Speculative fiction trying to integrate with the real world and call itself fact is more welcome than the truth.

Most people accept just what they want to hear.

You will argue from logic and actual substantiated information and get beaten down at every turn.

Be prepared to be ignored or called names.

Enjoy the ride.

Did you stop and think that maybe it's the government that has all the evidence? Is so then do you just expect them to shove it in your face?

My parents wouldn't let me get a dog when I was about 8 years old, so I played with an imaginary one.

When I had bad times with my father as a teenager, I'd often imagine he was not my real one.

I see what you're getting at. It's like writers have a 'muse' to inspire them.

People create imaginary personalities more than they realize. The now fashionable multiple-personality disorder is indicative. Often the different personalities form relationships with each other, positive and negative.

And finally, one area that fascinates me. There are authors who have written books in trance states. And they are often fascinating. There was a series by Jane Roberts in which a disembodies person named Seth spoke to her and supplied long passages of text.

Another whose name I forget now, in the 1920s, wrote long historical and Biblical novels using the voice and language of an 18th Century Irishwoman. And they were popular as novels with people not even knowing the back story. And eerily, they were often historically accurate beyond what the author would have learned.

Research shows people, mostly women, read fiction when they are young and synthesize personalities integrated with themselves.

This is getting long-winded.

But you get the drift.

Wow... that is a tad bit harsh and calling me out as a foe. I was simply commenting on the "ignorant thread comment" by saying that it was NOT that ignorant by the similarities of personal taste.

Interesting thread. I am in a philosophy class and the things talked about there really, really make sense. Like in this case: imaginary friends exist. How can you deny existence to something that has a description a name etc.? (Its called the puzzle of non-being if anyone wants to investigate) It exists but it's not real, basically. Also... if you have a clear and distinct idea, there is at least a possibility of its existence. so take that alien haters!

oh... btw nothing can be both true and false. unless you would want every answer to every question to be yes and no at the same time
