Why I hate cops...

Cops are cops for 2 reasons, either they are good, decent people who actualy care about promoting the safety of other or there is the ones you believe are crooked or are there to get "inside"

Ill share with you a story of what some of these people who are there to “serve and protect” did and are still doing to my cousin through trying to chrage him for there mistake.”

Me, my cousine and a few friends where walking back from having a few drinks at the club. On the way back we saw 3 guys beating on some random guy (literaly beating him while he was in the fetal possition). My cousin immediately ran into the middle of the croud and pushed them away from the person they where beating. All 3 of the people charge at my cousin and he hits them back, he managed to get a few good hits in untill they finaly brought him to the ground. After they had him on the ground they start yelling “were police officers! Were police officers!” my cousine was still resisting a little as he saw no badge and they where all in street clothes (like something a 20yr old thug would wear). One pulls out a badge and shoves it in his face while they all contine to kick him (he stopped resisting immediately after seeing the badge but was still being him VERY hard).

So, to make a long story short my cousin is being charged for 3 counts of assaulting a police officer as there where 3 of them, all for trying to help someone he thoguht was gettign beat up.

We still to this day do not know why they where beating on the kid that my cousin tried to save. We tried to get security tapes to prove his story but the building apparently does not record anthing but not 2 months before we where taking to a security guyd for the building and he was talking about security tapes catching bums staling peoples cans. So there are cameras for can thievs but not cop crooks? Its basicly our word vs. theres

Any ideas on how to win?

In my opinion it is time to begin actively resisting our local police any way we can especially if they are openly and blatantly breaking the law. This sort of thing is typical of most police agencies. I do not advocate violence against anyone but the time has come to do seriously consider our more active options and implement them.
However anything we actively do against our government will be considered at least as instigation, at worst treason, for which a citizen can be legally killed in the name of security. I am not afraid of tear gas or taser or nightsticks..........but execution, well maybe a little.....

Try to interest the American Civil Liberties Union in your case. They may be able to do backround checks on the cops involved and the police department in question. No criminal starts off with the sort of thing that was done to your cousin. These guys may have records involving disciplinary issues. You could also run ads in the paper soliciting information about the cops and the department in question. People may come forward. There may also be politicians in the community who are aware of the problem and willing to try to do something about it.

First. Get a competent criminal attorney. It's worth the money.

You might also try to contact the guy they were beating up and see if he is interested in laying assault charges against the cops. This is something that should be discussed with your attorney. If your attorney is a seasoned pro, follow his advice.

You may not like it and you may have to gag down a course of action that you don't want, but they are usually very good about finding the shortest line between you and "out of trouble."

It might be time for some person or some agency like the ACLU to start a National Police Department Registry, where police departments can be rated and the public alerted to troublesome departments. They do it for sex offenders, why not police departments?

To add to your description of why cops become cops, they were either bullies in high school who couldn't amount to anything else in life or they are actually good & honest individuals who actually give a poop when it comes to making their local communites safer to live in. Let's face it, there are bad people out there looking to prey upon the weak and we do need cops to help keep the peace. I am very grateful for the good cops out there and I have zero respect for those who do not belong in that line of work.

As for your situation, I wouldn't bother going any further. If what you say is true, your cousin did the right thing and I would have done the same. You are not going to win, drop your cause. Your evidence is not good enough and you don't need the headache. Bad cops do lie on the witness stand, the court process will take years and it will not be cheap. If you are willing to stick it out and go through the entire process just to lose your case, go for it and good luck to you.

You need to get hold of the original guy who was being attacked, without his corroborating evidence you have no chance.

Also - do you or your friends have ANY previous criminal convictions, if so, you're boned.
