ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series?

Seems I am getting one of these cards on my new pc, although I've not heard much about them and they weren't even available on the alienware site until a few days ago?


Anyone got anything good or bad t say about them?

4850 starts around 200 bucks, seems best bang for the buck?

You are "MUCH" better off with an Intel core 2 quad.

Even the q6600 would blow away AMD quads.

4 gigs ram is good.

Don't forget a nice 650 watt or higher power supply.

You may also want to consider a x-fi or asus sound card.

It will likely bottleneck with that CPU as Phenoms are really underperforming compared to intels. As for the ram do you know whether it's DDR2 or 3 and what the timings are on it ?

As for best bang for buck yes the 4800 series knock the Nvidia out of the water for price vs performance, however for pure performance Nvidia are superior but not by alot.

I'm also curious why you're looking at the Alienware site, is it an Alienware rig you're getting ?

the 4800's are supposedly great cards. i have a 3870 myself and i love it. great upper mid-range card. plays anything i throw at it at max detail. i only wish i would have bought an sli motherboard so i could grab another 3870 since they dropped to $125ish. i can pretty much promise you won't be sad you have that 4850. =)

You do realise you're paying for the name with Alienware, like $200 to $300 more just for a retarded alien head (no not all alien heads are retarded, just the Alienware one) on your case ?

Alienware went up the crapper when Dell bought them out and now they're just overhyped fashion accessories and a pain in the ass if anything goes wrong which does happen quite alot suprisingly.

I believe its a bit too late to cancel... oh well guess I can fork over my own cash to build one in the future...

rig I got now is decent, and I built it myself and it was hella cheap to do really, # my graphic card was the most expensive part

as long it pones on warhammer I'll be relatively happy... I was a bit wary about going with AMD though... shouldve read some reviews first...

It likely won't pone that much in Warhammer because those Phenoms are utter crap compared to Q6600's, they haven't even given you DDR3 Ram for that 2.5k I'm actually horrified how much you've paid! Those parts you could get for about 1.7k probably less then splash out on an epic size HD monitor with the spare change and take your girl out for a nice fancy silver service meal with change left over after that for some hobo in the street to buy himself a coffee

Decent computer, but try to cancel it. Alienware are overpriced. Choose your parts and then get a local computer store to make one.

DDR3 is a waste unless you get an extremely high end model. Why? The Front Side Bus does not and can not use the bandwidth associated with DDR3.
