Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported today that quarterback Brett Favre has sent a letter to the Green Bay Packers asking for his contractual release.

According to the report, Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, sent the letter via overnight mail Thursday and it arrived at Packers headquarters this morning. Cook said that Favre wanted an "amicable parting."

Mortensen said Favre participated in a conference call with Packers general manager Ted Thompson, coach Mike McCarthy and Cook on Tuesday. During the call, the legendary quarterback emphatically stated that he wanted to play in 2008.

However, Mortensen reported, Thompson and McCarthy were not receptive or enthused about Favre returning to the team. This led to Favre asking Cook to seek his release from the Packers.

According to Mortensen, Cook's letter to the Packers suggested that the quarterback's accomplishments merited that the team grant his release with no strings attached. Mortensen said that Favre does not want to be traded because he wants to choose where he will play.

The report added that Favre did not want to discuss his situation when approached while working out at a Hattisburg, Miss., high school.

God it never ends with this guy!!!

I love the Packers and I live 1 1/2 hours away from Lambeau Field. I've been lucky enough to see a few games there and equally lucky enough to see Farve work his magic.

He retired last year and truthfully, it was time.

If you're retired....stay retired!!!!!

Enough of this ego and not wanting to let go crap!!!

Brett, you had 16 great years, now grow up and let it go!!!

Now you're just an embarrassment.
