Name those double standards you encounter!!

Ok now I would like you to mention those double standards that you encounter on a daily basis. NOT just between men and woman but anything that can be considered a double standard.

For example, this colleague at work decided it was time for pay back:

History: this girl at work often goes into the gents bathroom and plays pranks i.e. switches off the hand towel dispenser which is automatic when you hold your hand in front of it it dispenses paper towel.

OK, the double standard! We always take this as a joke "hahaha, a woman went into the gents hahahahah" - you know what i mean?

So, this guy in the office decided it was payback! So, what does he do? He goes into the womens' bathroom, removes all the hand soap from ONLY one dispenser and replaces it with syrup!

HAHAHA funny? Yeah? We all thought so! BUT, he was almost fired NOT because of the syrup BUT because he went into the womens' bathroom... ala peeping tom? It wasn't like he was hiding. But not because he was caught red handed but because someone complained about the syrup and someone saw him coming out and he was asked and owned up.

But see what i am saying?

OK, what double standards do you live with daily??

Cool thread idea! S&F'd. Hm. I can't think of any at the moment but surely many will come to mind eventually. A guy friend recently told me of a double standard he hates but he's kind of a woman hater so I am afraid to mention it here. lol There's a lot of double standards between the sexes but those are pretty obvious so I'll try to avoid those and get creative.

Ok here is one I noticed in school a lot:

'Brainiacs' were cut a lot of slack in athletics because 'not everyone is physically inclined' but I never saw jocks getting A's in chemistry just for effort because not everyone is 'intellectually inclined.'

Ok that is stupid and it's late but I'm trying! I guess the point of that one would be those with gifts in areas like athletics, the arts, or philosophy are often perceived to be 'bad' students. The Right Brain vs. Left Brain elitism, Intellect over art. As if intellectual gifts were automatically more respected than artistic gifts. Of course I can see how intellect is more 'practical' but I would often see students involved in athletics or the arts be treated like back of the class students whether they were or not.

A lot of others are coming to mind like race, gender, wealth, etc., double standards but the above is one that doesn't get talked about too often.

We don't always look at most of these like that do we.

Yeah, when I found that I thought, "Well I'll be!, I'd would've never thunk it!"

Freedom... that is the double standard that gets me.

You have free speech till you speak up... don't say the wrong word or use the wrong language... whats free about that...?

You can think what you want... lest it is some non conforming thing then you are mental, this limits you... whats free about that?

You can drive a car.. after you pay for gases, taxes etc...?

You live free... after you pay rent, taxes, lot fees etc...?

You can wear what you want... as long as it conforms to the norm of society...?

You can eat, do and go anywhere you want on the planet... as long as you have enough money....

See I know the reality, gotta pay taxes and all that...

I am just saying the double standard works a lot of ways.

My best friend use to tell me all that was wrong with me. So I got my act together, got it together really well. So I spoke up ONCE and told her what I saw that she need to improve upon. She went bezerk and left the friendship. That was weird and it was one of the worse cases of hypocritical behavior that I have ever experienced.
