So.. yeah maybe not the best timing for this sort of post. I'll just spit it out.. I am 32 years old, I have had something similar to this hapen to me 3 other times in my life. Last night, I laid down, the next thing I knew my mind was utter chaos. It was like radio static on full blast in my brain, but even that isn't a perfect description. The entire event is very hard to describe, since I was in a half sleep, but I'll do my best. It truly felt like something was trying to invade my mind. It wasn't unfamiliar, but it hasn't happened since I was 19 years old. I could not move a muscle. I laid there trying to scream for my wife, who wasnt even here. I finally did get up (I am currently staying at a friends place) I wrapped the blanket around me and made my way to the hall. I tried yelling for my friend to please come help me. But I couldn't. I can't even explain it properly.. I'm sorry. The feeling is pretty much indescribable. I finally fought the feeling off, I found myself on the futon in a cold sweat, checked the clock it was less than an hour since I had laid down. I'm no expert on sleep patterns, but I am under the assumption that REM sleep takes a bit longer than that to kick in. (Yeah I know where assuming gets folks) Anyhow.. like I said this is the 4th time this happened. The first time I was 5 or 6.. I posted briefly about it in one of those 'strangest things that you experienced' threads. I was at my grandma's place I woke up to see a white thing next to my bed. No features, looked vaguely humanoid but i could also see it in the dark and tell it was white as white gets.. I laid there frozen until I was able once again to get up. I remember being a kid I figured I could run through a ghost, which is what i assumed it was. Well, I hit something. The wall, the thing.. no idea. But I hit the floor, ran to get my grandma, when we came back in there.. of course.. nothing. 2nd time I was maybe 13 or so, at my other grandma's place. It happened once again in bed. I didn't think much of it, but I did talk to my dad about it, and he related to me that he had pretty much identical experiences at some point in his life. Also, I didnt see any extra beings that time. 3rd time I was 19, laid down for a nap on my friends couch in the middle of the day. They all left to go somewhere .. same damn thing. Static in my brain full volume. felt like an intrusion into my mind. It's tough to shake this sort of thing. I wonder if I'm utterly insane or what, or maybe it's something hereditary. I wonder if it's ghosts or aliens. I honestly do not know. And yeah.. I have read all about sleep paralysis, trust me. I don't know what else to say really.. I can't prove anything. So don't ask. I just wondered if this is any sort of common experience or if I need to commit myself.

I think you should see a doctor. Even it has only happened a couple of times in your life, it would probably be a good idea to get a medical opinion. It could be a type of seizure or a migraine symptom. Rule out medical causes first, THEN look into paranormal explanations. I had a similar thing happen to me when I was a kid. I flew over the handlebars of my bike and hit a parked car with my head. For about five minutes I had loud static in my head, and my vision was monochromatic green with visual static. Afterward, I went to the emergency room to get checked out, I didn't sustain a concussion, and everything was ok. I hope everything is ok with you.

Sure, I am not ruling out the fact that it could be medical at all. Can't really afford to see a doctor.. but the main 2 points that bug me is the white thing and the fact that it was so spaced out throughout my life. I know NOTHING about medicine or the way the brain works to be honest, but I would assume a brain injury or tumor would manifest itself more regularly. The invasive feeling also bugs me. For the record I did watch my mother die from a brain tumor. I am aware of those symptoms anyway, and I am fairly certain that this is not that at least. Thank God. Hmm anyone know where to get a budget catscan? (joking) Thanks for replying.

Of course you should get checked out to make sure something serious isn't causing this.
However I think its a commonly known and studied event you experience.
It is called things such as, night terrors, the hag, succubus.
Many cultures have called it different things over time.
They have studied it and found what it is.
Its simply the unconscious mind being connected to the conscious mind the buffer between the 2 isn't functioning.
Its like a state where you are not asleep but are not completely awake.
Like you are becoming fully aware of your subconscious thoughts.
So you cant move because the part of the brain that controls movement isn't accessible.
But you are aware of whats going on around you because the conscious mind is partly awake.
The scary part is because of the jumbled thoughts coming from your sub conscious its like encrypted messages partly unencrypted and your conscious mind is trying to interpret them but it goes haywire trying.
Ive experienced this alot and have found alcohol can make it worse.
Im 32 as well and the first time I experienced it was when I was 15.
I hurt my leg and had a few beers with my friends earlier then took some pain medication and fell asleep. That was the first time I experienced it.
Its only seemed to get worse as I got older.I don't always get it like I said if I don't drink any alcohol for 2+ weeks I never seem to get it.
Several other things are known to bring it on as well.
Different medical conditions sleep patterns major life changes surrounding changes.
But mostly its been found to be so common it isn't a sign of any impending medical problem.

It's starting to come together a bit more. I definitely agree that it was a meeting between the waking and sleep states. I just called an old friend of mine that i trust deeply and he tells me this has happened to him often. Seems like it also may be the exit for some sort of out of body thing, which would explain how i went from the hall to bed in an instant. I actually feel a lot better about this now. I only hope next time I don't panic.

What it sounds like to me is that you are suffering Sleep Paralysis.

Does this post describe what you are experiencing?
www.abovetopsecret.com...

This post is also worth looking at.
www.abovetopsecret.com...

The experience you are having is that your mind is awake but you body is asleep. This happens when your concious brain wakes up before the effects of '___' have worn off.
Do you also feel like your body is vibrating heavily?

What you need to learn to do is not fear it as it has many advantages including the likes of lucid dreaming, oobe's, AP etc..

Also to comment on the alcohol thing... i actually did think back and the times in my life it happened was when I was stone cold sober. I was drinking last weekend, dont get me wrong, but Sunday, when it happened, i hadnt drank anything at all. In fact made it a point not to cause of work on Monday and all that. the previous time when I was 19 I also was sober. The other times I was too young to be doing anything like that. I was actually wondering if booze blocked that from happening. The only common thing I can think of is when it happened I was sober, and in a very quiet room no TV no radio etc. 99% of the time I fall asleep to the radio. I think I may give that up now.

Thanks for those links. I am going through them now. From what I have already read it seems to be a perfect description. It's a relief to know so many others have been through it. Hopefully I can find some good techniques on dealing with the fear factor, seems like there may be much more to it beyond the initial panic. I was totally expecting to get flamed too, thanks everyone.

Sleep paralysis another term for it yes.In fact thats the scientific term.
What ive found, its alcohol withdrawal that can make it happen. Not the actual being under the influence.Happens for weeks later.Does something to the brain when you drink then stop. That takes time to change when you don't drink.Something to do with this change does something with the brain and central nervous system.
Just something ive found.

I've experienced two different white noise in the brain phenomena.

The first is just before an out of body experience. Sometimes also one is in bed and realises some sort of violent shaking of the bed seems to be going on, but it is actually your bio-energetic form (soul) trying to separate from your bio-material form (body).

The second kind was very serious, and this is why I want to tell you to see a doctor straightway. Please do. I experienced white noise inside my head during a small stroke. So again please don't make peace with it as something else until you have consulted a physician and had a simple EEG.

I pray you are well, and that you will be at peace with these experiences.

was it like - "PPSHHHHHHHHT!" sounding like static from radio or television?
like jsut for a short time, you felt as if you had just kind of tuned a radio to complete static for a second.. ON.. PSHHHHHT! then off?
but real striking and loud?

thats how mine is, i havent had it in like .. some months, i cant remember, but could count the times probably on one or two hands that its happened to me. i am usually laying down trying to sleep when it occurs, but not every single time. there have been times when sitting. i will get a white noise, a PSSSSSH really loud, but it comes in waves with an intensification, like .. the intensity increases it seems towards the end of the continous internal "sound" , as if it were a wave or something. I remember getting the notion of barely being able to stand the intensity of it, then right at the peak, it kinda rolls away into the backround, sometimes completely gone. Other times it has happened to me, most commonly it reoccurs in waves, like something washing over my brain, and each time . . a very intense static-like internal perception of sound, as if theres a billion carbon suds all moving around in my brain at once causing a heck of a racket.

kinna thought it was high blood pressure? hehe

It was similar to PSSHT sound, it's tough to describe it to a T. That was also accompanied by a really intense ringing. It felt like my brain was being jammed in a way. It also kind of felt like my whole body was being mildly electrified. And it happened in pulses. I'm not sure how long the whole thing lasted, but it had to have been at least a couple of minutes.

lot of people do suffer from Sleep paralysis, you should however get yourself checked out mate

I cant explain those things you saw, ive heard of people being able to see "shaddow people" whilst under the influence of meth, but im not sure if thats what you saw...

Eh... I was 5 or 6 years old when I saw that white thing, definitely sober. In those other threads about sleep paralysis a few people mentioned seeing other 'beings' for lack of a better description. From all accounts of shadow people that I have heard they are not pure white. And with the meth thing, that's probably just caused by sleep deprivation and the brain shutting down. I knew a guy who was really badly addicted to meth, he would tell me the wildest stories about invisible CIA agents after him etc. He told me it was all proven in OMNI magazine lol.
