I'm not sure that this is the right forum for this info, but then again, ATS doesn't have a, "Scary ****" forum. so here goes.

According to this article in the New Scientist tech section, the Serria Nevada Corporation, is working on a microwave ray gun, named Medusa, short for Mob Excess Deterrent Using Silent Audio. The device is aimed towards military purposes, but other uses are in the works.

This thing beams microwaves into the skull, causing shockwaves, which can be tuned to reproduced audible sound.

This is one of those things, that scares it out of me. I hope this is BS, but the theory behind it is pretty sound. Any thoughts?

My first thought would be that if someone who is bi-polar or schizophrenic gets blasted with one of these things, there is no telling what the results would be.

If it works though, I'm sure the government will buy the tech up like hotcakes.

Thirty years ago, Allen Frey discovered that microwaves of 300 to 3000 megahertz could be "heard" by people, even if they were deaf, if pulsed at a certain rate. Appearing to be originating just in back of the head, the sound boomed, clicked, hissed, or buzzed, depending upon the frequency. Later research has shown that the perception of the waves take place just in front of the ears. The microwaves caused pressure waves in the brain tissue, and this phenomenom vibrates the sound receptors in the inner ear through the bone structure. Some microwaves are capable of directly stimulating the nerve cells of the auditory pathways. .... Aside from having the capability of causing pain and preventing auditory communication, a more subtle effect was demeonstrated the Walter Reed Army Institute of Reserch by Dr. Joseph C. Sharpe. Dr. Sharp himself, was the subject of an experiment in which pulsed microwave audiograms, or the microwave analog of the sound vibrations of spoken words, were delivered to his brain in such a way that he was able to understand the words that were spoken. Military and undercover uses of such a device might include driving a subject crazy with inner voices in order to discredit him, or conveying undetectable instructions to a programmed assassin.

I couldn't help but think of the Dan Rather story that was main part of this thread...

you kind of read my mind-----don't we already have "heat guns" that will turn a human into a pool of liquid,,,, like a melting snowcone

some have supposedlyseen these used in iraq?????

i wouldn't find that hard to believe when every american has a microwave in the kitchen---imagine what gov't has

Darpa, the Israeli military and others have produced the 'screamer' with noise so unbearable in your head you have to flee and devices that can induce epilepsy, defecation, urination, nausea etc, this is what they admit they have and as you know there is a considerable time between its invention and it becoming public knowledge-God only knows whats at their disposal.

There was a thread here about an A&E advertaisement in some city, if you walked by a certain building they would aim the sounds at you, no one, but the one person it was aimed at could hear it. It was pretty shocking.

Here is a link to one of the many stories about this.

yeah when I was doing my audio engineering diploma my lecturer was talking about sound or frequencies as we know it being used in post modern and future coming wars..

There are currently available 'teen repellants' screaming devices, only teens can hear it and it drives them away,

You might have heard of the teen-repellent noisemaker a store owner employed in his parking lot in the UK, and now that squealing device that supposedly makes an extremely annoying racket that only teens can hear has found its way to the United States. The device has been named Kids Be Gone, as if paying customers with more disposable income than any generation of youth in history are some kind of plague.

How they can call these weapons non lethal is beyond me, when there basically cooking your brain with microwaves. There should be an international ban on weapons like this. Nodoubt we can expect an increase in cancer once these weapons are used more frequently by law enforcement.

However, when it comes offensive weapons, there's always a defense. Not sure exactly how these weapons work, but hopefully, sound & microwave cancelling technology will soon make them obsolete.

Countermeasures against the weapon could be quite straightforward

I think the words of John Titor are pretty apt here: "I'm not aware of any "mind control" devices being used on you now. However, there are a great many "non lethal" weapon systems in development that turn out to be quite lethal. Sometimes I watch your television programs that show SWAT teams using new non-lethal weapons. They usually start out with, "In the future, the army and police will fight its enemies with new weapons systems…" When they use the word "enemy", they're talking about YOU! You don't really think the Marines are going to jump out of helicopters overseas with sticky goop, pepper spray and seizure lights, do you? "

Some might disagree that active mind control methods aren't being used:

Wayne Lo, 18, Simon's Rock College, Great Barrington, Massachusetts, 12-16-92; 2 dead, 4 wounded
--He remains convinced, he said, that it was something outside of himself that gave him a message to do what he did. Perhaps, he said in answer to a question, it was a supernatural or satanic force.

Kip Kinkel, Springfield, OR, Thurston High School, 5-22-98, 1 dead, 7 seriously wounded
--"Where do you think the voices came from?" Kip replied, "Well, I had some theories. Maybe it was from the devil... the government might have put a chip in my head. Government satellites might have transmitted to the chip.... At first I thought the voices were outside of my head because they were so very loud, like surround sound." Kip also claimed he believed one satellite gave voices to the microchip and another followed his every movement.

Steven Allen Abrams, 39, Southcoast Early Childhood Learning Center, Costa Mesa, California, 5-3-99 Killed two toddlers and seriously injured several more when he drove his car at high speed onto the school playground.
--He believed government agencies had devised machines ..that "may even insert thoughts of killing" ....psychiatric records portray Abrams as a man haunted by delusions that the CIA or some other government agency("an unknown government agency") wanted him to become a killer.

T.J. Solomon, 15, Conyers, GA, 5-20-99 Heritage High, 6 wounded
--T.J. Dr. Eddy Regnier, a teacher of psychiatry at Harvard University and who was hired by defense attorneys to examine T.J. said that T.J. had suicidal thoughts and believed to hear voices giving him commands. “He heard voices telling him to do strange things, but they were robotic voices, not human voices”
