The soul is consciousness in a timeless realm... the realm of the photon/ether. The universe is conscious of itself and experiencing through various vehicles (such as our bodies).

This is one of the the things that worries me about modern Western society.

The Body and Soul are a vast oversimplification. In most religions the consciousness is divided into multiple levels or parts. This can be seen ancient Egypt, Greece, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. Even in the Bible, Nephesh and Ruah are different.

Even in modern psychology the consciousness or Psyche(Greek for the Soul) is divided up into levels or parts.

I'll explain a little further what I meant. Spirit is often seen as an animating force, energy, etc. The Soul is the Psyche, often thought of as immortal. It could be considered the essence of our being. Personally I think they are both abstract concepts independent of our Mind(Self, Ego).
From my point of view Spirit is like Nephesh or Pneuma, which is translated as Breath. It would be a vital principle among all living things. The Soul could be seen as an abstract principle like the Unconscious or Subconscious. This could be the source of Intuition. The Soul would be more aware than we are, hence dreams and visions etc. In a sense the Soul would be the real you or true self as opposed to the Conscious Self, which would be the Mind.

My opinion is that our Soul ultimately comes from the Divine and that physical constraints such as Time and Space may not apply to that level of reality.

Again this is all philosphical and I have no way of absolutely knowing anything. Anything at all.

From my point of view I see the soul as a collective conciousness.

From what I believe to understand is that the soul is made up of many of our own dimensional astral bodies, the one that is talked about all the time is the higher self. The higher self is the self guardian of/to ouselves (does that make sense), our dimensional selves are part of something so big its impossible to write about let alone explain. However universal mind consisting of earth conciousness partly fits.

In a nut shell its impossible to explain the soul without understanding the universe, in order to understand the universe you need to understand your higher self, (or is it the other way round) once you have mastered that move on to dimensional concious shifts and compartmentalized life essences one you have mastered that congratulations you have now reached a state of nirvana.

The way our society/civilization whitewashes all of this makes it extremely hard to figure out what its all about.

Do you really want to know? There is no soul as scary as it may sound there is none. as we were turned on like a lite switch we turn off like one when we die. There is nothing, gone.... thats it. If people knew this there would be world chaos and no order, thats why God or religon was set into place to keep order.
Why are we here? We are here as an experiment and evolution is something that was created by our maker ( Wanna guess who our "maker " is ) is not evolution per say, it's changes that they are making generation by generation.

Want to know more let me know. I'll answer for you.

The soul or spirit of an individual is the personality which predates birth and survives death.

Souls were not created. They are what is left of The Original Creator after The Big Bang was manifested with the infinite and nonliving Light on the Other Side. The Original Creator or First God, who was rarefied but not infinite in God Consciousness: willfully, totally, and irreversibly divided up the Godhead into trillions of basically spiritual, yellow-energy angels.

We all started out on the same level of development. Over the eons since The Great Division, our choices have led us to where we are today.

They come from our imagination

yes, that is loaded with more meaning than meets the eye.

It's a good question. The world population is ever expanding, do some people run around without souls? or do they have one specially created for them and are on earth as a "newbie" for a while?

The only thing I can think is that there is some pool of souls, meaning after death our consciousness disperses and join with other souls. As new life is created on earth, tiny chunk of the pool is separated and formed into a soul and given to the new life. It could be that as our world population rockets, the quality of the souls available is decreasing. Might explain a few things about the loosening moral fibre of the entire world pretty much.

The soul may be a silly concept if you think about it for a long long time.

It's a question of identity.

I found my answer when I was contemplating time.

Time is a trick of attention.

in expanding and going into the roots of this thought, this statement became: Reality is a Trick of attention.

What is alive? everything is alive, and everything is dead! what is the definition of life?

things that move, they are alive? then the rocks of the earth are cells of a life from, they cycle to anf fro from the center, melting and solidifying, moving and changing.

the planets move in their courses, and there are energy beings as well.

life is self-organizing? te universe is self organizing!

but I stray from the subject.

There are no souls...

if you think about reincarnation long and hard enough.

the basic question that keeps coming up when anyone studies reincarnation- 'How is it that so many people remember being the same person?' an answer is, that they are full of it, but that's wrong, because we've seen the overwhelming evidence that reincarnation is true.

I think it's been made far too complicated.

Reality is consciousness, it is mind. it is one mind, and trying to discover itself, it divides and subdivides itself, and by focusing the attention on the subdivisions, all manifestation arises.
Samsara (entanglement) is when one mind forgets the interconnection, the wholeness, it becomes a pocket, and it beleives it is seperate from everything based on it's attachment to it's identity. Identity is broken up, into small bits.

This is like when you are multitasking, you break up your attention, well, in this way, the mind breaks up into Reference Points. then it becomes entangled in the sense impressions, and loses that part of itself in that reference identity.

So reincarnation is addressed thus: if we all share the same memories of transmigration we are the same soul, or there is no individual soul.

this means that everyone is always everyone that has, will, or does live.

What about subtle bodies and so forth? we have evidence that we are more than flesh!

well yes, of course you do. it is only science that claims there is only flesh. As I said there are also energy animals, and energy worlds. but they are all superimposed, they are all one reality, and the identified mind simply shifts sense-data organization to recognize a given reality-form, to identify with the body-mind that interacts with that world.

A metaphor: when you look at a cloud and see a dog, that is like reality. it is all along a cloud, but when we reorganize the sense data, it is a dog.

similarly, if we play a video game, we temporarily become super mario. it is the same with you and I, we are the sprites, and the player is Mind or God, whichever you think makes the most sense, it doesn't have to be a supreme being, it could just be a force, like gravity. it could be personal or impersonal.

Don't know if this has been posted, but according to wiki... The soul is eternal and believed to pre-exist the body. The spirit develops and grows as an integral aspect of the living being. So could we say it is our spirit that is shaped by our own experiences.

Interesting points:
I've also thought about this theory of all of us being from the same source "Light"

Just think of a gigantic light source we are all "One" and the "Same" as light is light and is identical and unchangeable other than it's brightness so the theory goes we all come from ONE SOURCE of light where when we are together with this ONE SOURCE we understand all things and all creation throughout all universes, dimensions and existences!

Like the River of Life type source made of Light, upon choosing our course we seperate as individuals to experience life and explore all creation, individually we are a small piece of that light source, this is what is placed into our bodies and is our soul or spirit. A small piece of that "ONE' light source so to speak. So when we die we go back to that SOURCE and remember why we chose to come to this earth, who we really are and have been for eternity and where we are headed as we see all things and all things are present, past and future to us with time being absent.

In reality we are all the same and are ONE so that is why many religions also talk about being ONE with one another and that GOD is in you and has always been there with you because you are part of GOD and ONE with that same source of LIGHT.

"Ye are the Light of the world"

"The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are One!"

"If you have done it unto the least of these your brethren you have done it unto yourself"
(Alteration) lol

Many people have had NDE's that support this type of theory, they claim to have re-joined the "All Knowing, All loving" Source of LIGHT which is one with the universe the consciouns mind so to speak of all things that are, were and are to come! In other words GOD which is part of all life, whether it is a tree or a rock or animal or us were all the same we all come from the same source. We all came from LIGHT and that there is only LIGHT and DARK in this universe that seperates all things balancing the universe with positive and negative flows of energy.

Not my personal beliefs as I am still searching but it is a good theory and it's interesting to read all the NDE experiences who talk about the undesrcibable feelings of love and knowledge they felt when re-entering this light source! Including being greeted by Light beings they met that explained this very theory to them so there is some evidence to support this belief system.

Then there is always "De Ja Vu" which could be a glimpse of our sub-consciouns minds remembering this life as we viewed it before we came down here: Perhaps we saw our entire lives before we came here and "De Ja Vu" is just a small remembrance of that! It makes sense if there is no time beyond this world and we see past, present and future all the same as one. Just A Thought!

Thanks for the good addition!

I'm pretty sure that the soul is the container that the collective knowledge/information we collect over our lives are stored in...the spirit is what drives us to take the directions we take to gather said knowledge...

Ive heard souls are manufactured on the moon by aliens!

Describing the origins of the soul/spirit is impossible. Its like trying to think about a beginning with anything existing. Our minds aren't meant to wrap around this problem. When we die we will find out the truth of all things. Only then will we know how we came to be.

Our physical brains aren't capable of forming a complete answer to your question!

Impossible I say!

Just go along for the ride, and know that when you die, there is another life waiting for you. Quantum physics is opening the doors to new possibilities. Other dimensions, and atoms being pure energy, have only been discovered recently, what might we be able to uncover given 10 more years?

We may be able to prove the existence of a soul/spirit but we will never as humans be able to define the soul, and determine how we got here.

When we die we find out.....

Wow...

Fallacy per dictionary.com (this subject deserves only this level of research...):
1. a deceptive, misleading, or false notion, belief, etc.: That the world is flat was at one time a popular fallacy.
2. a misleading or unsound argument.
3. deceptive, misleading, or false nature; erroneousness.
4. Logic. any of various types of erroneous reasoning that render arguments logically unsound.
5. Obsolete. deception.

The teachings of few misguided individuals (all those professing religious doctrine as the only truth) has left a profound mark on society that will not go away soon enough. No offense, but the idea that something awaits us after death is comical - sick, but still comical, and only belongs in the Halls of the Hypocrites - or any church. Your idea of a soul or spirit may be your own, but to say that religion has played no part in it would be weak sauce...

No soul, no spirit, just chemicals that make up our psyche - which in turn enables us to make conscious and sub-conscious decisions...as well as laugh and cry.

I am more likely to believe that energy can be left behind after a traumatic death, than the idea that we rise to heaven or land in the 7 circle of hell after our time is up. That would be your only example of a soul/spirit, and since those things don't seem too intelligent (no need to bring up the few cases in which a poltergeist of spirit showed awareness, as this does not seem to be the norm), and just wander around specific locales - I don't think being in that state is much fun...Though if you could find a way to manipulate things and affect the area around you because you chose to, it would be a blast.

The people I would terrorize on....wow, that list is long.

The teachings of all organized religion, especially the after death parts, is a fallacy at best...

I would love for there to be a soul and a place to go kick it after my time here is done, but that is not going to happen, as it is our chemical make-up that gives us a sense of being and allows us to ponder what it will be like after the end; not a soul hidden somewhere in the hypothalamus...or aisle 12 of Kmart.

So, I will have to roll the dice with cryonics and hope they figure out a way to stop the blood from crystallizing...that's my only shot at being here after I kick the proverbial bucket...

our spirit is created in the first period of life called the pre-life this is where a soul and spirit or the innerman learns the basic things of life

all of our innermans wer created by God in the exact format it is what this spirti has learned and experianced that shapes it

then the soul goes through the occupied life and afterlife if you want more information on this theory u2u me or something

No one likes atheists because of their Condescension.

One good thing about religion, it at leasts asks you not to be a jerk.

I find your argument to be fallacious.

to say based on theory that meat generates mind is as unsubstantiated as saying that mind generates meat.

which model explains the most in the most satisfactory way?

is your model muddled?

Mr. James was an age of reason idiot.

your precious scientific method is now telling us that you can't observe something without changing it! what better proof that mind generates meat!

I prefer to take the middle path, it's usually the best: if mind doesn't generate meat and meat doesn't generate mind, then mind and meat generate each other, or are each other.

meat is mind and mind is meat.

lol

A bit touchy, huh mega...?

Your buddist and hindu examples are as bad as your assumptions...I never said I was an atheist, I just do not believe in a soul or spirit - try looking up the terms agnostic or even common sense. There very well may be something divine out there, but zealots like you have no idea nor any proof either. Just views that help you get through your mundane day.

Understanding the teachings of others does not make your ideas and beliefs correct. It just means you can follow script as well as stand on the shoulders of others - and indignantly BTW.

So instead of labeling me an idiot (which seems ironic coming from you), try looking into areas that may not be prudent to your own agenda, but may shed light (no, not the light at the end of the tunnel) on something you have yet to discover...and from the looks of it, you're gonna need a lot of light.

BTW - put down the crutch and get through life on your own two feet.
