Aliens may come to eat Doritos.. What?

Thats funny... no its not

To help the United Kingdom's physics and astronomy money woes. The scheme involved soliciting commercial companies to pay for advertising being beamed into space, supposedly directed towards potential extra terrestrial life.

The Doritos ad (inset above) is being pulsed out over a
six-hour period from high-powered radars at the EISCAT
European space station in the Arctic Circle.

The UK public invited to create a 30 second video clip that could be beamed out to the universe offering a snap shot of life on earth to anyone ‘out there’. Some 61% of the UK public believe this is just the start of communication with ET life and that we will enter into regular communication with an alien species at some stage in the future.

The winning space-ad entitled ‘Tribe’

First Advertisement To Be Broadcast Into Space

Commertialization is the name of the game.

On the lighter side- Whether aliens come to eat Doritos or humans these companies dont care

How little do we think of potential extraterrestrial life? Not much, it seems.

The University of Leicester helped Doritos — yes, THAT Doritos — send a message to a solar system 42 light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. What was the communication? A peaceful salutation? A threat? Nope, it’s a Doritos ad

The ad made me laugh for some time.

Sending a junk food ad to extraterrestrials is like showing up for a job interview dressed like the Dude or taking out a person you are courting on a dinner date to KFC.

What do you think??

One thing about commercialisation - it will steal the eye out of the back of your head and come back for your eyelashes if it has the opportunity.

Anything that is currently popular it will latch onto like klingons - ruthless.

They have exploited us for long enough, time to explore other avenues, (or galaxies)...

You are right Breifne.

what surprises me is there was no theme for this Ad competition. Atleast they should have made a Space theme or something.

*reporter* ".. and we are here now , live, witnessing what can only be mankind's most historic moment. The UFO has landed and all is quiet for now.
... but wait, somethings happening.. we can hear a soft hum.. something must be about to happen.. .. oh, yes, there's what appears to be a door opening..yes, we can clearly see inside the ship now... hard to see if anyone is home yet.. the crowd here are acting in a manner of curiosity and combined fear of the unknown... but... hold oon, wait a moment, there's movement...

omg, an alien has appeared in the doorway and is slowly walking out towards us... we can only imagine what will happen next.. are we about to make mankind's first true meeting with beings from another wold?..."

*alien*
"Alright, how's it going?... got any Doritos?"

It will be interesting to see their balance sheet at the end of this trading's quarter - will people buy into this nonsense or will it fade away like most commercials. They are obviously riding on quantity of sightings rather than quality thereof (if that at all).

Otherwise, its just another commerical with a unique selling point!!

Lets just make sure we put no humans in the commercial...wouldn't want a language barrier to be responsible for the consumption of the human race, now would we?

I'm just waiting for the space shuttles retrievable launch fuel tubes to be painted like a pringles tube.

NASA, proud sponsors of pringles... bring you the umpteenth senseless, pointless coverage of yet another shuttle launch.

now comes the funniest part of this all...
(Extralien this is for you)

Peter Charles, Head of the Doritos Broadcast Project said: "We are constantly looking to push the boundaries of advertising and this will go further than any brand has gone before. By broadcasting the winning ad to the Universe, Doritos is delivering a world first and Matt Bowron, the winner, will go down in advertising folklore. We also shouldn't be too surprised if the first aliens start arriving on planet Earth immediately demanding a bag of Doritos."

Exactly what I was going to post on. This is not the first in history useage of a alien based advertisement. The Bunny was abducted by EBEs to recharge their UFO, nothing new in the commercial arena, butit does seem to be more popular these days.

New thing is actually beaming the Ad into space, supposedly directed towards potential extra terrestrial life. Thats were I feel they should have made atleast some theme... on Space or on Humans...

I told this to my friend, this is what he said word by word...

Great, let's spam the galaxy.
It's actually perfect, what better message to send out than the message that we humans pollute whatever medium we find ourselves in. In one short clip they'll know everything they need to about our nature.

So, it goes...

spamming the universe..

We've been doing it a long time and this could be the reaction we will get....

Funny thing is...are doritos made from potatoes?

The ad was targeting humans on earth, not ET. This is some very clever reverse psychology going on here. It really makes me want to go to go down to the nearest Giant Evil, buy a bag of Doritos and some beer.
