Two fighter jets have collided in northern China's Inner Mongolia region, state media and a local official said but the pilots survived with only minor injuries.
The collision between the two Jian-8 fighters happened during a drill near the Inner Mongolian capital of Hohhot, according to the Xinhua news agency, which said both pilots parachuted to safety.
Xinhua corrected itself after earlier describing the crashed aircraft as helicopters.
The site of the accident was confirmed to be 20 kilometres from the seat of Qingshuihe county, Xinhua reported, citing the fire department of Hohhot.
One of the planes exploded, leaving only the tail intact, according to Xinhua.
It said the two pilots sustained only minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
