Only World War III would prompt Republican presidential candidate John McCain to bring back the military draft, McCain said on Tuesday.
Many Americans are fearful the U.S. government will be forced to reinstitute the draft given the prolonged Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Asked about that possibility by a potential voter in Florida during a telephone "town hall meeting," McCain said: "I don't know what would make a draft happen unless we were in an all-out World War III."

What a freak'n dumb thing for him to say. :shk:
If the balloon went up and WWIII were happening, there would be NO TIME for congress et all to reinstate a draft, to get the wheels in motion, to get the draft notices out, to get people trained, to deal with those dragging their feet, etc etc.

I love Obama, but I hate to say that he would be first before McCain to institute a draft.
A draft is a more democratically supported idea. It's more fair; everyone has to serve instead of the few. Everyone gives to their country and receives the benefits back.
Obama supports federal funding for college students if they serve in a branch of the military for 2 years after they graduate. That's a lot closer to a draft than McCain is.
Obama still has my vote because I see him as someone who would avoid going to war at all possible costs, whereas McCain would be ready to jump the gun. I just thought I'd clear that up though.
