New warning categories, One-Liners, Big Quotes, and Avatars.

yeah I would have hoped that there would be more tolerance of some one liners in BTS. In the jokes forum for example. Some people would like to respond with LMAO or something similar without having to give an analysis of why they found the joke funny, just to stay within the guidelines.

Yep, the button for them doesn't even show up on BTS

I know thats why 1 liners are allowed in most BTS forums

why are so many rules being introduced? we cant just run free. Ats power is going to some peoples heads roudn here.

We have to produce some sort of decorum to run a website idf every1 was allowed to do "run free" then ATS would be what it is today. Besides not many new rules have been introduced.

We tried that, and received a flood of complaints about "post quality". It seems that many members can't be allowed to "run free". And, these are "rules" we've always had... it's just that now we've made it easier for a larger moderation staff to nudged members and let them know where they've strayed. If you don't want to be involved in a board where the management and staff are concerned about the behavior and decorum of members, as well as the overall intellectual quality of content... we can point you to a nice list of alternatives. And actually, this isn't a "new rule". It's a new procedure.

I've been waiting a long time for some crackdown on the excessive quoting.

I know, I know... there are more than a handful of posts cirulating around which has a small one or two sentence response from me. Sometimes, there is humour, others sarcasm... but usually, if not all the time, it relates to the threads subject matter.

But what may need clarify-ing is the word limit. Some people have a gift for the vocabulary, and can express things quicker. It may take some people a few paragraphs what the others may be able to do in a sentence.

If it is to stop the 'humour' undertones, okay, I could live with that (might want to include bashing and insulting, too).

I remember... late last year (?) there were comments about the person's signature being longer than the post he wrote... this along the same lines? Never saw that changed.

It's a judgement call... please reference the initial post in this thread... 1) One-Line or Minimal Posts These are obvious. Simple "me too" or "ditto" posts... or posts containing smilies are frowned upon in ATS. One sentance that contributes to the topic is fine, but not a row of smilies or a silly comment as your only reply. When we see one of these, you'll get a minor warning in your U2U in-box.

Yeah, I had seen that, but then seeing the other posts discussing the "one sentence" thing. In the way you're talking, sure, I can see that. Good luck, I'll try to do my part!

Me too. I even told some people who were abusing it, but they didn't really seemed to care. Maybe things will get better, with the introduction of an "official" rule, and new mods to apply this same rule.

We have only so many eyeballs. If you see a violation in any form, u2u a mod OR (better) make a "complaint," with the link and post number. Title the communication with what's wrong: one liner, excessive quoting etc. It will be looked into and dealt with, have no doubt. Together, mods and members, can make ATS better.

Right, this'll be my last post on here because rather than argue about it, I'd prefer to just leave, it's your board, you make the decisions and if I don't agree with them then I have the option to just go, and that's what I'm doing.

My "one liner" was in Chit Chat, it was "WTF?" which is a shortened (and in my opinion, more "shocked" looking, funnier) way of saying "What the #?"
I was penalised for saying that in a thread which was not the most 'highbrow' of threads and I feel that that was just too much.
It was a genuine question, I was surprised at what the poster I was responding to had said and posted my phrase in a way that I thought showed that I was surprised.
I have no bad feelings about this site, I used to enjoy coming here very much, but over time I lost some of the respect I had for some other members based on the way they say the world and certain situations, we hold diametrically opposed views on certain things, and although I respect them as people, I can't respect their opinions, but I never let it get in the way of the way I read their posts that had nothing to do with those views.
Anyway, I've gone on longer than I really wanted to, so now I'll take my leave.

Dany I like your posts and all, but saying you cant respect different opinions is just #ty and ignorant IMHO.....I know you say you dont hold it against them, but you obviously do or else you wouldnt of brought the issue up. I can be the first to admit I cont agree with alot of peoples opinions, but I dont lose respect for them becuase of it.

Dany, how can you state in one sentence that you don't respect people's opinion but you don't let that affect your opinion of the person?

I've always held that you can respect the opinion, since it is everyone's right to have one, but disagree with it.

It seems to me that by disrespecting someone's opinion simply because you disagree with it is disrespecting the person for having it. That just doesn't seem fair. People have WIDELY varied life experiences that create their opinions on most issues.

In any case I hope you live long and prosper...

At the time you received the warning, the thread was in ATS. As the topic evolved to more "chit-chat" in nature, it was moved to BTS, but after your warning. I don't appreciate being called a "liar", I think my efforts here might deserve better knee-jerk consideration than that.
