Conspiracies against efficient cars are nothing new. The first cars invented were electric. And General Motors purchased and ripped out all the electric public transportation companies in the 1920s.

Just found this: 1959 CAR GETS 376 mpg gas2.org...

Below are the sites for the Windmobile and the three-wheel vehicles and small car museum, and Buckminster Fuller's 3-wheeler (this project was sabotaged by a truck ramming the parked vehicle) -- This car weighted 1,000 lbs, held 10 people, and got 35-50 mpg (see bottom of post for urls)

Here are some shot of the Windmobile home.earthlink.net..., (previous models home.earthlink.net... that gets 35 miles per hour in a wind of 35 mph with no solar assist. Of course, only the states along the coasts and where there are hurricanes and tornadoes have wind, and by states where prevailing winds head from bodies of water towards deserts.

The U.S. has so far not allowed the new concept VW www.gizmag.com..., Peugeot images.businessweek.com... and Mercedes images.businessweek.com... 3-wheel car/motorcyles into the U.S. Most currently, the U.S. is requiring they have to additional trainer-wheels installed.

The lightest vehicles get the most gas mileage, so 3 wheels are preferable to 4. Most states define 3-wheel vehicles as motorcycles, although some are redefining their laws.

Here's the 3-wheel car website:Here's the 'currently in production' list (not all are dorky, some of high-tech road/amphibious vehicles, scroll down at the site and start at the bottom of the list and work up), www.3wheelers.com... and here's the home page of the website www.3wheelers.com...

And here's the small car museum: www.microcarmuseum.com...

Buckminster Fuller's www.washedashore.com... shl.stanford.edu...

And here's test projects that get 3,000 & 5,000 mpg (scroll down) www.aiforum.4t.com...

3 wheeled vehicles aren't generally made or imported into the US because they have a reputation of being deathtraps. Three wheeled ATVs used to be popular, but they're pretty much banned now, because of how often they rolled over, killing or maiming the driver.

Those little leaning 3 wheeled cars are pretty cool though, but in the US, I would definitely classify them as motorcycles.
